It is still hard to believe Guy is gone.
Detroit is playing winning hockey this season, though I must admit in my limited viewings I have not been overly impressed. The Habs will likely be facing Husso in net. I presume St. Louis may give Montembeault this start and come back with Allen against Vancouver on home ice.
Anderson is suspended so someone like Pitlick or Pezzetta will draw back in. Hopefully Slafkovsky moves up into the middle six. Wideman was awful last game so hopefully he returns to the press box and Kovacevic plays.

I hope slaf is on the 2nd line with Monahan That would be good on two fronts. Give Slaf better linemates and see what he can do, and get Monahan away from the dead weight he has been carrying around. He has looked good at times, but too many plays die on the sticks of his wingers.

It appears Pezzetta is going to be in the lineup this week and I suppose Dadonov is coming off IR on the weekend. Pitlick produced no offense and took too many lazy penalties.
I like the look of that power play unit. Now if Slafkovsky could just get some middle six minutes before he goes to the WJC.

Chuckle. At least no one is going to intimidate our PP. I bet WiFi does just fine at the point. Expect wrist shots for deflections. He has a very heavy shot and pretty good release.

Does our power play come with a soother?
All the young ones on the first power play. I'm good with that!

Does our power play come with a soother? All the young ones on the first power play. I'm good with that! Three 21 year olds, an 18 year old and the senior statesmen Suze, all of 23. Wonder if this has ever happened in league history? This is one fun season!

Let’s see if any line other than the top one can generate any offense. Detroit is a much tougher matchup these days. They have looked pretty good.

Detroit is one of those teams on the way up. I have a high regard for Yzerman, but I wonder if maybe they exited the rebuild stage one year too soon (if so, likely it was because of owner pressure). They have two guys on D who may be good enough to elevate their game into elite status, Seider and Simon Edvinsson. It's early yet, but they have potential. The one area where they may fall short, though, is at centre. Larkin is a very good centre. Is he elite? Is he one of the guys you immediately think of when you consider the very top centres in the league? Is Marco Kasper going to be that guy? When you think of the centre strength available this year, I have think the Wings are missing out. They seem to be in win mode now rather than development mode. Perron, Copp, Chiarot...none of those guys screams development, yet all were signed this year. Some message perhaps from the owner, and meant to the fans, was that the days of losing are over. The Wings do have a first and 2 seconds this year, but at their current rate, the first won't be a high pick, probably 18-20. They'll get a good player, but the probabilities of getting an elite centre are lower.

I really really really hopes he doesn't sign and hits the Free Agent market in the summer of 2024. Just to watch the Leaf fans twist in agony on if he stays or if he goes.

Glass half empty: that middle six is flavorless. Glass half full: it is only a matter of time before management will have to place one of those high-profile vets on waivers.
Detroit, since they opened their new building, has not regularly filled the barn. Last season Hockey Town USA was only 10th in the league in revenue (by comparison, the Habs with the worst team in the NHL were 4th in revenue). So, for sure, I would surmise the owner has not been happy and likely this factored into signing guys like Chiarot, Peron, etc.

Looking at those forwards and you can see the epitome of quantity over quality. First line is fine, but the middle 6 have 2.5 NHL players. The 4th line is ok, but an upgrade on Armia is necessary. That means 7.5 players, call it 7, are guys you want or can keep without losing any sleep, out of 12. Just barely more than half. We'll need 3-5 replacements. The 4th line isn't as critical as you can fill with any number of guys, but the better they are, the better we are. My guess is we can count on Beck and Mesar but Beck doesn't reduce the numbers because he's replacing Monahan or Dvorak. I'm also placing a lot of faith on Sean Farrell, but now the problem becomes carrying too many smallish guys....Caufield, Mesar and Farrell. So we're not r educing the numbers much, unless we move some of our centre prospects to the wing, a la Dach. It would really help if Luke Tuch, Oliver Kapanen, Joshua Roy and Jared Davidson panned out. The latter 3 are 6' tall, so not big, but at least they're not smurfs. Davidson is a guy under the radar. Drafted as an almost 20 year old in 2022, he's put up 19 points in 10 games for Seattle and is +11. I mention him because he really caught my eye in training camp and a couple of preseason games. A 5th round pick, but looking pretty good, even if he is a bit older than the typical prospect. We need more size and skill up front.

If i was playing beteeen Dead and Drip, i would want extra pay for baby sitting.
This is where Perry would of been a huge boon. I could see him picking a fight with some vet dead wood.

I've never seen a team struggle to even make zone entry and set up on the PP the way this team does. How does throwing it back twenty feet help

Can we please just end this Drouin Experiment. He has no place on this roster. He is not a top six player, he is not a bottom six player, and he is not a PP player (especially not on the point). He needs to be sent home. (Along with a couple others)
