I remember players being mocked for wearing helmets before it became mandatory. I can't imagine players going without now, or even a visor. Surprised there wasn't more catastrophic injury.
Of course, if you have the cool hair like a Lafleur, maybe it's worth the risk 😉

I remember players being mocked for wearing helmets before it became mandatory. I can't imagine players going without now, or even a visor. Surprised there wasn't more catastrophic injury. Of course, if you have the cool hair like a Lafleur, maybe it's worth the risk 😉 My old man complains about the massive amount of safety elements built into cars these days we know it's a good thing but the pessimist in him says it makes people drive more recklessly because they feel less at risk. i have always complained about the idea we should increase speed limits on highways because people are "going that fast anyway" to me the increase just allows them to go that muchy faster because 20 over seems to be "allowed" if the laws were properly enforced in the first place what is seemingly "allowed" wouldn't be. Oh yeah we are talking hockey helmets and equipment so back on track I remember a coach's corner one night where Don Cherry was banging a shoulder pad on the desk explaining why they were no good compared to the older ones that were softer instead of such ridgid plastics and such, sure they offer more protection for the guy wearing em but the guy taking one of those in the ribs or wwherever there is little protection from standard equipment sure feels it alot more. His argument was they offer greater protection while simultaneously creating more potential injuries and personally i hated the fact i could no longer find the classic stuff (hello Brendan Shanahan nice shoulder pads bud !!) technology has advanced the game so much which is pretty awesome but part of me still yearns for the old days lol the old addage of giving an inch while they take a mile ...
