Dadonov on a 2 on 1 waits way too long to make a decision and a great scoring chance turns into an easy stop

Not really liking the uniform. Two shades of blue on the jersey & another shade on the pants. In another thread someone - sorry, dont remember who - suggested a Maroons based uni. I saw a rendition with the Habs logo & thought it looked much better than what they ate wearing tonight. And then they could have Bugs "Metal" Bunny as the unofficial mascot ...."What a Marooon!" What a gulli-Bull. A classic, that bullfighting ‘toon.

You can see how slow Gallagher is ... he looks like he is standing still compared to others at this pace

The Devils speed and opportunism took over in the second. I would imagine the boys try to make a push but it will be tough because with d-men pinching and/or none of the forwards staying high, New Jersey is going to have serious chances to put it away on the counterattack.

It’s ok to lose. We’re seeing an example of an elite player. We can use one more. Lets at least get into top 10, top 5 if possible.

The third line is basically playing 5 on 4 with Gallagher out there

Need Xhekaj or Pezzetta to encourage Bastian not to poke Allen again.

The Devils did a good job limiting the top line... they had a combined 2 shots on goal

The Devils d-corps is quality -- rangy and mobile. I have no idea what Pittsburgh was thinking when they traded Marino.
New Jersey gave the Habs massive problems with the quick transitions off turnovers. This should be a good lesson for the boys.
I am not willing to anoint the Devils a Cup contender because I am not sold on the Devils tandem in net. But with their skill and pace, I see them as a lock to make the playoffs. Teams like Washington and Pittsburgh should be getting more worried by the week.

The Devils are likely where the Habs would like to be in a while, but are not quite there yet. Well deserved of their ten game streak.
Not sure if there is a curse of reverse jerseys, but…

Not sure if there is a curse of reverse jerseys, but… The Devils still have Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec and Seamus Casey coming on defense. Holtz might be a late bloomer, but he's not pacing like Lucas Raymond, his old teammate. That's a lot of quality on D, though and they have those two horses down the middle.

So that was tough to watch. The Habs hockey was bad enough but my TV was showing these blah Habs jerseys all game. I got the TV repair guy coming tomorrow.

Dads with his best game as a Hab.
Cole with his worst game as a Hab - talk about a turnover machine.
Savard playing like a 3rd pairing guy. Harris struggling and may be the odd man out when Maths returns.
And Gally, what can you say. This is going to be a very long painful contract.

Where did Jersey come from? I've been so used to them being lousy. Still early, but looks like they got really good all of a sudden.
Man, those light blue unis DO NOT work.

"Being lousy" got them some great draft picks including 2 first overalls in 3 years. We get Bedard and we will be in great shape too. And it was good to see Tatar have a good game - always liked the guy.

The lack of secondary offense is a clear weakness. Part of that could be due to taking Dach from the 2nd line and putting him with Suzuki and Caufield. Not saying that isn't working, but Dach is a pretty confident puck carrier and has potential to anchor a second scoring unit.
Really hard to figure out who is worth keeping once you get past the top 3 forwards. Not sure what to do with Slaf this year - physically he's NHL ready but he needs way more polish to his game. Is junior even an option for him? I'd just love to see him rack up 50-60 goals rather than plod along in the AHL. My wet dream is he's another Alexei Kovalev, but he needs way better puck control.

I think Slaf is getting there. He looks like a juniour at times and then on another play, he holds onto the puck confidently and makes the right pass at the right time instead of forcing it. Quick learner. The only option for him is Laval, and I don't trust the coaches down there as much as I do MSL. I could see Houle playing him on the 4th line for 9 minutes a game. He's getting about 12 minutes right now and yes, it's not with offensive linemates. MSL has two priorities...developing the kids and (for the next 3 months at least) trying to have certain vets impress other GM's. Unfortunately it's been the kids doing most of the impressing so far, but MSL is doing his bit to help out Hughes. It won't last forever and after the TDL, I bet Slaf is on the 2nd line. Jersey does indeed look good. Since 2015, they have drafted 6th (Pavel Zacha, who became Erik Haula), 12th (Michel McLeod), 1st (Nico Hischier), 17th (Ty Smith, aka John Merino), 1st (Jack Hughes), 7th (Alex Holtz, 18th Dawson Mercer and 20th Shakir Mukhamadullin), 4th (Luke Hughes) and 2nd (Simon Nemec). There's been some luck along the way, but the gist of it is a lot of high picks in 8 years. A lot of suffering in Jersey, but they finally have some steady goaltendiing and voila', instant (that's a joke) contender. The instant part is a joke, the contending part isn't. I thought they'd be in the playoffs last year but goaltending killed them, and that turned into Simon Nemec. I'm hoping Allen and Monty get hurt.

The bottom line with Houle is moving on up... he knows his chance for advancement with the habs is slim because the coaches we have so he needs to win games... development isn’t a priority for him.
