Who is this Jake Allen guy? Not the one we have been seeing lately, thankfully. Keep it going Jake!

I would have liked to see Slaf cut in and try deking there, but his shot hit the post .... nice laser He got a lot on it in full stride. Nice to see.

TSN still haven't shown a good angle on that to show Matheson's feet taken out from under h8m

They don’t call Markstrom, but call Mangia. Weird. Right result though.

I wish Josh Anderson knew how to deke or shoot when he isn't in too close.

What the heck is Matheson doing?? ...shoot it down the ice, don't push it to the blue line

Montreal gets 19 shots on net and wins ....with Jake Allen in net facing 45 shots. Someone could have won a TONNE of money if they bet on that

Allen played hard, good for him, he stole it
We gotta start thinking about piling some losses together for a shot at the lottery, can't leave it too late

Who is this Jake Allen guy? Not the one we have been seeing lately, thankfully. Keep it going Jake! Slafs showed a lot tonight we haven't seen. Wonder why? Could it be? Could it be? Some decent line mates!!! Who knew? If he plays like that, then keep him up and let him play and dominate on many a shift as he did tonight. The guy is a beast! Now about Marty and HuGo. I can't find a lot of fault in their moves, but was it really necessary to be forced by injuries to play Slafs up the line up. I thought their main focus was on our first overall draft pick's development. And by shear chance he may be able to break out. Doesn't look good on management

Caufield from his office. PP no less. Very nice play. But that was about it for that line tonight. Suze was off most of the night. And Dach was pretty shaky. Best line by far was Monahan and Slafs. Anderson skates well but man is he one dimensional.

Credit to the boys for winning another close game. By my count, of Montreal's 12 wins this season, 8 of them have been by a single goal (and another was one goal plus an empty netter). That is 75 percent of the victories in nail biter fashion. I am certainly not convinced that is sustainable. In a tough league, working such narrow margins is a hard business.

For sure, the top skill guys for the Habs have been super clutch after 60 minutes.
I was having a cold pop with a couple dads from my son's hockey team after practice today and we were going back and forth on whether Montreal's promising start is sustainable. One of the guys is sold on it because he is sold on the Habs star power (Suzuki and Caufield). My take continues to be playing the way the team is playing, no, it is just not happening because the percentage of one-goal wins is a total outlier that is not replicable over a full season. However, I allow for the caveat that Montreal could end up being a 85 point team if they can play better hockey and seize control of more games. I just do not think that is in the cards this early in the roster building process.
Well, whatever happens, I just like the positivity that the boys project when they talk about their group.

The thing is that goaltending is carrying the club. It doesn't matter if we're playing the Yotes or the Avs, the odds of us winning depend completely on how well the guy between the pipes plays. That can go on for a lot longer than a person would think. We do need some .833 games, though. Being middle of the pack is not where we want to be.

I think they should play Monty on the road and Allen at home this way Allen's baby will help us get a better pick

Seventeen, for sure, it all begins and ends with the goalie play. The odd thing about the season thus far is that Allen has been rather poor overall (3.4 goals against, .898 save) and yet his record is average (7 wins, 8 losses) rather than poor. One way to look at it is to say well when Allen has been good he has been very good, and when he has been bad he has been very bad. But it seems there may be other layers to what has happened. The Habs have actually won games this season with the goalie letting in four, which in years past was virtually unheard of.
Time will say. But right now I just perceive that depending so much on one-goal wins to pick up points is tricky.
