Not the best guy to get caught flat-footed against.

They should have body checked Ryan to get the puck ...can't call it a penalty it was in his sweater.

Anderson gave it right to Draisaitl...ahead to McGuarantee.
Brutal.

Too bad it was a game of powerplays, something we're not equipped as well as the Oilers
We need to make a decision on our goals for the season. Where we are at right now is the death zone as far as the draft goes. .500 hockey gets you nowhere. Time to start selling off veterans and playing the kids and quit trying to win every night

Wonder if there's a stat re:
The records of teams who give up a go-ahead goal in the last minute of the 2nd period.
They seem to be killers more often than not.

I continue to be unimpressed by the Oilers. They didnt show up in the 1st & needed a lot of help from the refs in the 2nd to beat a poor Montreal team tonight. I am puzzled that a team with 2 massive talents continues to hover around the .500 mark. They are only 3 points ahead of MTL.

This just in. Oilers still suck. I have never seen so many 5 on 3s in my life. Some were warranted, others…
Fun atmosphere in the new barn, but a win would have been better. In the end, for the long haul, the loss does help. I still keep looking at the Oil and feel beyond their top two superstars, they need more depth. Still.

I hate it when the refs are a part of the story. Some calls were weak, and many non-calls were worse than the actual calls.
Matheson charging ahead on a 5 on 3 looked good, but when McDavid scored shortly afterwards, Matheson seemed so gassed he wasn't moving to challenge McD in any way. That didn't help Allen.
Guhle is looking like a #1 defenseman at times. I know he doesn't have Wifi's shot, but I want to see him on the PP and see what he can do there.
Felt like both Anderson and Edmundson were trying too hard, as if they wanted to impress to get traded to EDM.
I wish we had an EDM draft pick in the bank, I expect they won't finish high this year. They are 2 superstars, a couple of other guys, and not much more.

Every year I wonder how can a team with two of the top 10 players in the league suck so bad. It was very clear; there'e not much after those two. Nurse is a middle pairing on contenders, and the rest of the D are bottom pairings. NH is a weak 2nd line centre. And other than Hyman, there's nothing. Had to laugh with how much time McD and Drais got on the PP. At one point in the middle of the on 5 on 3 PP, Oil called a time out. And Debrusk is going on about how the coaches wanted to figure out a strategy on the 5 on 3. I'm like, are you some dufus? They called a time out so the only two players they have could rest. Sure enough they show the Oil bench and no white board, no discussions - just McD catching his breath.

Debrusk wasn’t noted for his high hockey IQ or his point production.

I just don't see a D man anywhere worth 9.2 million. They are stuck with that deal for the next 8 seasons.

Once the game became a special teams extravaganza, the Habs were hooped. You cannot give McDavid and Drai that much time on the PP, especially three five on threes in one period, and expect to keep up on the scoreboard. It would have been nice to see this game played five on five for the most part, because I think the chinks in the Oilers’ armour are much more exposed in that environment. And that late goal was a killer after the boys had fought back into the game. What could have been. Penalties, penalties, penalties.

Despite all the penalties, many dumb (X, Suze), we had tied it up. And then Kravs with the bonehead play. He should know there is only 8 seconds on the clock. Just eat the puck and kill the period. You don't try to clear it around the boards. Whiffing doesn't help, but the simple play was just to freeze the puck against the boards and let Hyman try and ge tit out while the seconds ticked off.
