Wow, the offensive explosion to start the second. Suzuki and Caufield with space off the turnover must be a helpless feeling for a goalie. Anderson skating hard to daylight to receive a pretty pass on the rush. That defensive coverage on the goal was terrible. But to Wright's credit, he looked good in the first period. Maybe Hakstol will see that banishing a kid to the press box or burying a kid on the fourth line with plumbers is foolish. The kid is motivated tonight, sure. But having a couple nice linemates (Bjorkstrom and Gourde) certainly helps the cause. He's on the RW, not centre, so he doesn't have to deal with too much.

Nick has absolutely no panic threshold at all. I guess when you can hold the puck as well as he can, there's never a need to panic

It's nice having a colour guy do the habs game that doesn't hate them... Button and Poulin should do all Habs broadcasts

Come on boys, Claude Julien gets a royalty payment for each minute Armia plays on the power play since he was the genius who discovered Armia's talents are so well suited to the man advantage.

Yeah, he can play. I have always liked Dunn. I thought he was literally one of their only bright spots in a dismal boring 2021-22 season.

We have no business being in this game.. 8 shots after 2 periods? Wouldn't be surprised at all to see another comeback by the home team

4 goals on 8 shots
Then they give up a goal with 0.1 seconds left.
Yeah, I sense another collapse coming

Well, same score, 4-2 Habs, as last night heading into the third period. One hopes the boys learn some lessons and keep it simple in the third.
It is weird. The stat line makes Martin Jones look like a beer league goalie (4 goals in the back of the net on 8 shots). But how many of those goals were really stoppable (maybe the Kovacevic one)? I know Montreal is working with eleven forwards and only three centres, but a little more direct pucks on net would not hurt because if nothing else it slows down the game and makes Seattle take more defensive zone faceoffs.

Crap. I hate those late period goals. that wa sKovs again. the guy has no sense for the game. he's on the boards deep in our end with 3 seconds to go in the period and he sends it up the boards. Goal! He did the same thing ;last game with 8 seconds to go in the period and Goal. I don't have much time for guys who don't know what time is on the clock. But that may be the least of Kovs problems. He is a turnover machine in our end and is often out of position or beaten cleanly on the outside. Jets knew what they were doing in letting him go. But hey, he did ge this first goal in the NHL in a Habs uni. Now send him on his way.

Only 2 players drafted in 2022 have points in the NHL. Slafkovsky has 7 points in 21 games Wright has 2 points in 8 games Bets on who gets the most points in his career? Sure Wright got a goal, his first. But anyone watching this game and being asked which rookie, Slafs or Wright, has the greater potential would easily pick Slafs. Wright was fed the puck in front of our net a couple of times but otherwise he was unnoticeable, rarely in possession of the puck. Slafs on the other hand was a presence with his skating, size and puck possession, and board work. Enjoy your moment Shane but Habs made the correct decision.

The West coast trip was interesting in the sense that some forwards (Evans, Dadonov, Armia, Pitlick, Pezzetta) who had been invisible virtually all season began to show signs of life.
Unfortunately, the coaches now have the additional headache of how to deal with Monahan's absence. That will not be easy. It is obvious Dach is staying where he is. Pitlick played a lot of centre in the NCAA, but I seriously doubt any NHL coach trying to win games would play him down the middle because his defensive deficiencies are glaring. I really do not like Evans moving up to play with Slafkovsky and Anderson. I prefer Dvorak. And assuming Evans may have to work on the third line (with Armia and Dadonov), there is still the question of who slots into the fourth line.
Sadly, there is not much NHL material in Laval. Harvey-Pinard and Ylonen are not centres. Schnaar is not much of an option. Is Richard taking any shifts as a centre? Belzile never showed anything during a couple cups of coffee with the Canadien. Mysak is not NHL-ready.
Who knows. Basically if Monahan (or Savard) is not going on IR, someone on the roster (Wideman?) would have to be sent down in order to call up a centre.

But hey, he did ge this first goal in the NHL in a Habs uni. Now send him on his way. Kovacevic has received a lot of glowing reviews, but sometimes I wonder. As you have pointed out, he's on the ice, gets the puck in a pressure situation and a goal results. Now the possession numbers with he and Harris were pretty good for a while. And when he was with WiFi, same thing. There's a little Gremlin in the back of my head that credits Harris and Xhekaj with that. Arber has had some gaffe's for sure, but he flashes the occasional really good play. He made a couple of short passes, under pressure, in our zone that set our forwards off on a clean exit and they were very tough plays requiring the proverbial nerves of steel and he pulled them off. He has a nice touch with his passing, too. He, Guhle and Harris are a real foundation for our defense. If Hutson can come along and Barron as well, I'd be thrilled.
