State of Hockey Statistics • 71 percent of all goals are scored in the bottom 12 inches of the net. There is more room down low. • 58 percent of successful shots are released within one second. • 80 percent of goals are scored with little or no wind-up. • 27 percent of all goals are scored in the five-hole – between the goalie’s legs. • Only 20 percent of high goals are scored over the goaltender’s blocker – 80 percent are over the catcher. • Only 6 percent of one-timers scored in the top 12 inches of the net. • 47 percent of goals are scored from within 10 feet of the net. Are those from the NHL stats department?

Are those from the NHL stats department? There was an study on NHL goals done based on the 2017-18 season. (The analysis wasn't done or commissioned by the NHL) That conclusion came to 30% of goals are short side low, 16% of goals are glove side high, and 14% were five hole. Strangely enough, in shootout situations, 5 hole goals increased to 23% ** the study for some odd reason only tracked about half of all the goals scored. No idea how they chose which goals either.

Well, that was a shambolic performance from start to finish. I guess the only positive could be Montembeault digging in after the first period and not allowing another goal.
There are a few vets who need a change of scenery (some a new team, some literally a different league). There are a couple of kids who are quite marginal right now as NHLers who could use a temporary change of scenery as well.

Only four more nights with these ugly blue jerseys. Hey, maybe they should wear them every game. 😉 These jerseys were ugly when I first saw them and thought it was some kind of prank. and they've only got uglier with each appearance. Speaking of appearances, did any Hab show up tonight. It's one thing to be off your game or in a slump but it entirely another to not care. Fans paid good money so you the player can get a ridiculous pay check. Show up damn it! The broadcast kept showing a kid, maybe 7 years old behind the Habs bench, wearing I believe a Suze jersey, and he was so pumped at the beginning and so crestfallen by the 2nd period. Have these players no shame. Take a leave of absence, or play in the AHL!? Marty must be fuming given his competitive nature. So tired of watching Drouin, Hoff and Dads go through the motions so they're not taxed or hurt. This is not good for the kids to witness. Usually when someone is a healthy scratch, they come back with a vengeance. Not our man Hoff.

You want goals, well the Habs will give you goals…AGAINST.
Another porous season upon us.
At some point, the young defense will mature and tighten up, and there will be better forwards who support more in their own zone, and the goaltending will be where it needs to be; however, still a lot of work to do for HuGo to get this lineup “reset” and where it needs to be.
Can you imagine forking out good money to see that game live last night? Ouch.

Outskate his support, try to crash through the defender along the boards, and never ever look to pass.

What I'm afraid of and very likely to happen is that we don't have a deep enough core to bounce back in a few years...like the Rangers.
Hopefully we add Dubois and that still gives us an ok front but still not good enough because of a weak bottom 6. Defense and goaltendings is way short for the foreseable future.
In other words, we are more into a looong Buffalo like rebuilt then a quick entry into top 16.
Wake me up for the 2026 season...maybe.

Where are those better forwards? Don't see any in the AHL and players like Owen are still paper tigers until they play in the NHL. We have lots of maybes and hopefuls but no top 6. Most likely we are going to fill the bottom 6 with what we have. It may give us a bit more energy but wont put the fear into goalies. A team of Evans with Suzuki/CC is not going to get us anywhere. We need to add Dubois AND another top 6 forward to enter the top 16. That of course is assuming that our defense matures and we have a top young goaltender. Right now, no amount of happy pills will gloss over reality of what we have.

Dubois worries me... give him 8 years and he becomes a drouin because someone wasn't nice to him...I'm not sold on the guy... he is having a good year so far and is on pace for forty goals but I don't know how he would do in montreal.

Aside from the Quebecois angle and the fact they were both third overall picks, Dubois does not really give me the Drouin vibe. Dubois is a big centre with a lot of bite to his game. Drouin is a skilled winger but he only wants open ice or else he just hangs out on the perimeter.
Yes, Dubois has been outspoken in Columbus and Winnipeg. However, I do not see Dubois lacking for confidence. He may have rubbed some folks in Columbus and Winnipeg the wrong way but Dubois plays with swagger. Unfortunately for Drouin, confidence has been an issue ever since he turned pro.
Also, I like the trajectory of Dubois' career. He seems to be hitting his stride, a good season last year at age 23 and now a very big season. Whereas Drouin's best NHL season was age 21 and he has basically disappeared in his mid-20s.
I am not saying I want Dubois at any cost. But assuming he wants to be in Montreal and cost is not prohibitive, I believe Dubois would totally change the complexion of the top six in a positive way.

Bring your own whoppee cushion because my Dubois bandwagon can get rough.... Suzuki and CC are facing the toughest defenders. A second scoring line will change that AND Dubois can make those around him better. Now if the Hockey Gods gave us Bedard...along with Dubois, we would have the greatest Center depth EVER.

Adding Dubois for the 24/25 season makes sense to me Don’t trade for him and burn up assets. Sign him as a UFA. We will be better next year but will probably miss the playoffs again (barely). He doesn’t need that. Now, the following year a lot if things fall into place. Over the next two years, the roster will add Joshua Roy, Sean Farrell, Owen Beck, Filip Mesar, Jared Davidson (another sleeper choice of mine) and possibly Riley Kidney and Oliver Kapanen. Add improvement from Slafkovsky, Suzuki & Caufield along with a top pick from this year and the offense will be fine. The back end will be anchored by Guhle with support from Wifi, Hutson, Harris, Engstrom and possibly even Mailloux. We may get a dmman with our second first rounder this year. They won’t all make it but its a good foundation.

But... but... what about Dvo and Evans... lol... I agree that with Dubois only being 24 it means he is starting to get into his prime years, and the fact he is on pace for 40 goals this year could be an indicator of things to come and having a 1a (suze) and a 1b (woody) would be a great thing to have...he's an RFA at the end of this year... could we entice the Jets with the panthers 1st, our 3rd and the pens 4th this year and the Flames 1st in 2025? Pretty close to an 8.5M to 10.5M offer sheet... of course this all depends on how the lottery balls drop... we would have to see where he is at after the end of the season before you make an offer and he would have to be signed long term as well...
