Those LaFontaine numbers with Verdun are still hard to fathom. Man, Savard had a hot hand at the draft table in '83 and '84. Grabbing Roy, Richer, Corson, Svoboda, Lemieux, and Momesso in a period of a mere two years is borderline outrageous.
The boys must be feeling a little more confident with a couple of wins on the homestand. The Islanders season seems to stalling out a bit. With Trotz, they used to win a lot of 2-1 and 3-2 games. Now they seem to be on the wrong end of those type of scores too often for a team expecting to make the playoffs.
St. Louis better tell Slafkovsky to play alert hockey because the Destroyer Romanv could light him up if he is not paying attention.

I liked Romy and am curious to see how he plays. But I don't miss him at all as Wifi has more than filled in. Romy had a big hit every 4 or 5 games. Wifi does it almost every game and often more than once. Also think Wifi is better offensively, both passing, shooting and perhaps even skating. Bottom line: I would not trade Wifi straight up for Romy.

I expect(ed) that Romanov will get better at the offensive side of the game. He just turned 23 and for a dman, that's still young, but an excellent point has been made....how do he and WiFi compare? Romanov may be more disciplined in his own end but Arber's got a full year to make up on him and he is already better in the other team's end. I wouldn't object to having both, but I too would not trade WiFi for the Tsar and that's not taking into account the extra time and space Arber provides for his teammates.
Finally, one could ask "who would you rather have, Romanov or Dach?" That's a clear win for Kirby.

And Dach is just getting going. His two points last game gave him 26 points on the year, tying his career high with Chicago last season in 70 games. He hit that mark this year in 42 matches. It is clear he has not his his ceiling yet. Romanov, whom I always liked as a player and personality, may be at his ceiling or close thereto now (especially offensively). Time will tell. This is why having a surplus of good prospects in the same position is never a bad thing if you can move a guy in demand for an area of weakness within your club, comfortable in the fact you have internal competition that will eventually fill the void left from the trade.
And yes, Slafkovsky better keep his head up around Romy tonight.

Nelson's chance was a good candidate for " a goal on the 1st shot of the game" but Montembault with a good save.

Dobson with a point shot scores on the 3rd shot of the game. Down 1-0 -less than 3 minutes in.

Haven't watched a lot of games on TV lately but since when has the advertising on the boards rotate like that. I have seen it on the glass behind the nets though. Seems like Rogers is tweaking the feed but it is distracting as he'll trying to watch the puck and you have ads popping in every 30 secs.

Beauvillier gets in behind Savard and scores on the rebound of a point shot. Not quite 7 minutes in and its 2-0.

This team gets out skated way too often ... very lazy clearing attempts to the point all the time. While some might like the risky play over the safe play, this team never completes the risky play and it ends in our net with great frequency. Until they learn to protect the puck, they'll never win or compete for the playoffs

I don't have an issue if they change it at each whistle but do not rotate during live action. Over sensitive on the eyes. That and when they change angles on close ups you see something completely different as an ad.

Evans had to be helped off after the faceoff as Nelson fell awkwardly on top of him. Will have to see if he comes back.

Twenty minutes of terrible hockey, hard to rescue positives thus far tonight.

Ya, only one bona fide scoring chance the entire period that fell to Dach. And they got some luck when Barzal hit the post on the PP or it could be an even bigger hole.

What bothers me is the seemingly non stop betting ads and listening to big name athletes suggesting people throw away there money. I'm tired of TSN et al giving me odds on every little thing.

Drouin gets a good look after a setup by Ylonen but no luck beating Sorokon.

A penalty against Barron is overturned. Wow dont see refs admitting a mistake very often.

The boys played better in the second period. Unfortunately, Sorokin is proving why he has solidified himself as a top 10 (probably top 5) goalie in the NHL.
Drouin has no finish, obviously. But he is hustling, moving the puck well and putting pucks on net, which for much of his time in Montreal is something he has not regularly done.

The Habs are making some nice plays here and there in transition, but a recurring problem is that basically no one ever goes to the net. It is hard to beat a cat like Sorokin if there is no traffic.

Caufield should have shot on that last rush. If he has half a chance he should take it.
