That's one ugly lineup. Can't believe Molson has spent the most on salaries this year.

How good is Guhle?
He has missed 23 games this year and is only 2 points behind for leading the team in points by a defenseman.
Jordan Harris has taken over the rookie scoring lead on the team, but he is only 1 point ahead of Guhle.

Edmundson did practice, but according to the NHL Network he is not playing tonight. So I would assume Barron will be in the lineup.
I suppose it is nice for Gurianov to roll with the Captain. I feel sorry for Harvey-Pinard and Anderson. Oh well, at least they have good chemistry together so maybe Drouin can just sort of blend in.

Better to get a 4th for him than nothing, right ?

Montreal can only retain on three contracts. So if Hughes already knows there is now no possibility of trading both Edmundson and Monahan, then yes by all means showcase Drouin.

Well, I suspect that either Hughes knows he won't be moving Edmundson, or has made it clear he isn't retaining on him... and is still hoping to get something (anything) for Monahan, so the 3d slot might be available for Drouin. I really hope we manage to make good use of our 2 last slots. I'm jealous of the 3d rounder Arizona got for retaining on Kane. Heck, that 3d rounder is more than I expect we'll get for Drouin and close to what I expect we'll get for Monahan...

A lot of back and forth hockey, fun action for the players. The boys have had good chances but no goals. I have no idea who is in net for San Jose.

Kappo Kahkonen is the goalie for SJ. Former Wild goalie on the Sharks for the last 2 years. Save % of .885 so far this year. The little I saw was indeed very wide open. Habs often all over the place in their own zone.

Gurianov is like a cross between Anderson and Byron.... Byron's speed and lack of natural scoring touch on Anderson's body. I hope he can improve his scoring, but me likey.
Pierre Houde on RDS called Ylonen Lehkonen once or twice, and I've been thinking the same... it's as if Ylonen (like Lehk) is seeing he won't stick through offense, so he's developing a well-rounded game that makes him hard to take out of the lineup.
I won't pretend I care about the win. I did love seeing Guhle back in the lineup. He's going to be the Adam Foote type defenseman I wanted Romanov to become.

I like what I saw in Guri, and sure more enjoyable to watch than Dads - also see a lot of potential. But I am concerned as to why Stars gave up on him. I guess we gotta hope for the old change of scenery scenario. I think Guhle will bring much more than Foote. Foote was pretty limited offensively and no where close to the skater Guhle is.

I guess we gotta hope for the old change of scenery scenario. Yup. Look at Sam Bennett in Florida, sometimes you just needed to change your life. No longer having "top prospect" expectations can only help as well. If he becomes a faster, more consistent Armia, for example, he could be very valuable on a 3d line. Well, my meaning was that Foote was a rock for a long, long time, the anchor for all kinds of offensive defensemen who could be their freewheeling selves.

Gurianov was hustling into open spaces and, with an excellent puck distributor like Suzuki driving the line, he got a crazy number of good looks. Does he have any finish? Time will say.
It was nice to see Guhle back. I was wrong about him in his draft year because I did not see much offensive upside. The kid really took off in his D+1 season and now, while acknowledging he is not going to be Makar or Josi, it is not a stretch to project him as a top pair guy.
It is interesting how, despite having a suboptimal goalie situation on paper, one of the two guys has been on a heater virtually every month of the season. I think this starts to at least partially explain what has emerged as one of the more confounding phenomenon in the league this season. Namely, how in the world is Montreal 16-3-4 in one goal (or one goal + EN) games when the team is seventh worst in the standings and in the bottom quintile in goals for, goals against, power play and penalty kill.

Lehkonen was a decent scorer before joining the Habs during the Bergie era. Then he's a a good scorer after he leaves the Habs. I wonder if there's a connection? There are some similarities betweeen the two, but I don't think Ylonen is as good defensively as Lehkonen. He could develop into a decent scorer. He has a good shot, excellent speed (faster than Lehky) and a reasonable hockey IQ, though he doesn't anticipate as well as Lehkonen (not many players do). I see him as a very good 3rd line RW. His goal last night showed off his speed to separate himself from his checker, and having the sense and hands to raise the shot above the pad.
