Nice, I forgot the Rockies became the Devils. New Jersey started stockpiling young quality players in the late '80s.
One of my buds at university was a Devils' fan, he was actually the first one I had ever met in my life. New Jersey should bring back the green. Those kind of looked cool, whereas joining the ever growing number of teams on the hey let's wear black bandwagon seemed kind of meh.
Well, the Devils are on their way to locking down second place in the Metro. I know the trademarks of the depleted Habs are perseverance and unity, but down the stretch against so many quality opponents one has to imagine there will be a handful of 5-1, 6-2 type Ls in the forecast.

I've only met one person who is a Devils fan. The odd thing about it is that he lives in Leafland & his whole family are Toronto fans. Must have been some teenage rebellion thing.😀

The only thing worth watching now is Guhle’s rise up the Habs rookie defense points list
Since my last update (when Guhle had 14 points) he has passed
Bert Corbeau 1917-18 (15 points) Joe Hall 1917-18 (15 points) Ted Harris 1964-65 (15 points) Serge Savard 1967-68 (15 points) David Wilkie 1996-97 (15 points) Jordan Harris 2022-23 (15 points)
Bud McPherson 1950-51 (16 points) Francis Bouillon 1999-00 (16 points) Raphael Diaz 2011-12 (16 points)
Guhle is currently tied for 15th on the Habs rookie defense scoring list with 17 points and tied with
Terry Harper 1963-64 John Van Boxmeer 1975-76

The Habs bottom six got cratered on both the goals. Overall, New Jersey had a lot possession but it did not translate it a ton of good scoring chances. The Habs had a couple of counters (Richard found a gear I did not know he had on that partial breakaway). Unfortunately, he did not really test the goalie much there.
Gurianov has some nice tools but the guy just does not seem to get it. On one shift in the first period, I counted three times (two of them super obvious) where he could have finished his check on a Devil d-man and each time he did not even bother. Where does this guy think he is, playing a pickup game of married versus singles with his buds?

I’m finding it impossible to ease up on Pitlick. I counted at least 3 times where he failed to complete a proper pass to a breaking Hab. Each time it resulted in a turnover and a transition attack or long cycle for the Devils. He makes those passes and its us putting pressure on them.
Pezzetta is useless as a player. He just doesn’t have enough skill. Don’t know why I’m complaining. Frustration, obviously. So many of these guys will only be a painful memory next year. They don’t belong and they are proving it.

Must have been some teenage rebellion thing.😀 Wasn't a Devils fan, but I was a Stephane Richer fan ... missed five years of live NHL hockey when we lived overseas ... still, I've balked at getting a #44 NJ road jersey for years now, but I still may order one ... as for the game, the Devils are playing like a contender ... as for the Habs, it'd be nice if they could give Jake Allen some 'run support', so to speak ... he's reacted late to a few shots, but at the same time, the team in front of him was getting out-hustled in their own end ... at one point in the period, trying to follow the puck in the Habs end resembled a pinball game ... the play has settled down a bit now ... still 2-0 pour les bad guys ... Cheers.

I'm ok with the Pezzetta and Belzile types. The team is getting decent mileage out of these guys.
I've just had it with high paid veterans that produce little and make the same mistakes.

I don’t mind that “filler” guys like Pezz and Belzile are making the most of injuries. They at least try. The uninspired vets are frustrating to watch, and their play has essentially made them assets without value (so a negative net asset value right now IMO). Having to wait for deduction by attrition is a pain.

Calling this team “the Habs” is more an ode to the classic jersey than the hodgepodge of a lineup. Yet all these “good” teams cannot put the boys away. If I was a fan of any of these pretend contenders, I would be a bit worried.
Like PK said earlier this year…if you play hard for the jersey, the fans will love you. Very true.

Very true NWT. The Rangers and Canes games were tossups.
The low point for me was the 9-2 game in Washington. Haven't seen anything that bad since despite the long string of injuries.

Man, I like Mercer (I wanted Bergevin/Timmins to grab him in 2020). His all around game really checks a lot of boxes. I have admitted that I was wrong about Guhle (his ceiling is significantly higher than I thought in his draft year). But it would not have been folly if Montreal had picked Mercer.

Couldn't tune in...but with the empty-netter and 36 shots, I presume Allen had another of his stronger games tonight.

Pretty blah game. Neither team seemed all that interested. But was worried about getting another useless point when a Hab got it in the slot at the end of the game. But not to worry, it was Drouin. Arizona only one point behind us!!!
Suze must be keen to get this carni act over.
I must say, while Guhle has maintained his offensive instinct he seems to be struggling mightily in our zone since his return. And he actually seems weak not hitting and losing battles. I recall him being a force; not Xman but took care of business. Maybe he's not 100%.

I doubt very much he's 100% and I bet he himself pushed hard to be allowed to play. Also, I saw a stat where Guhle's possession numbers are decent until he is paired with Savard or Edmundson. Surprise! Then they're bad.

Good look. But when I first saw #26 I was like not Bouchard? I think the board would have had to consider your continued ability to post
