Matheson is the best skating dman we've had in decades. He just glides out there. Petry was fast north south but Maths agility and edges are at another level. Unfortunately, I think he has the same hockey IQ as Petry. Often makes bonehead decision leading to awful turnovers. I don't know if they can teach that sort of stuff, but if Marty can sort out Maths decision making skills we would have. a top 10 dman and maybe Norris candidate. The guy sure can skate.

Maths is a +7. That's insane for a dman on a team the Habs have had this year. Eddy is -19 and Savard is -15. Karlsson and his "wonderful season" is a -19. Two other dmen on the Sharks have better +/- (Benning and Vlasic).

Columbus' first goal last night was directly caused by Edmundson not making a good enough clearing pass for a zone entry. He's just not a good enough transition guy and it leads to -19. Matheson not only can move the puck, he can skate it out. Big advantage.
