Was that Mogilny or Pezzetta? Pezzetta keeps surprising.
St. Louis keeps surprising too. I guess it is not hard to surmise how he managed to keep an undermanned group together through a long season.

I love what MSL is doing, players are responding and he rewards with shootout opportunities. No way guys like Therrien would allow things to be light and fun.
And why not, not going to playoffs, it's time for TEAM BUILDING which is more than just drafting

Costly lost point for the Sabres.
Perhaps a costly 2 for us...but so be it.
Full marks to the boys tonight.

Maybe he was rewarding Matheson, Kovacevic and Pezzetta for their performances. Or maybe they were voted “least likely to succeed “. I could see Tierney and Savard up next.

It's hard to know if Marty was rewarding the blue collar guys or tanking. It's not as if the shoot out gimmick is all that helpful for a players development. So once the OT finished, might as well give up the silly point. Then again, perhaps Marty, who is wise beyond his years, recognizes the importance of allowing the blue collar guys getting their moment . And Pizzaman with a classic!

Costly lost point for the Sabres. Perhaps a costly 2 for us...but so be it. Full marks to the boys tonight. Felt good for Les Boys. Hard to believe the Sabres who needed a win couldn't mount more - they were actually outplayed through most of the game. But the two points may be very costly. Right now we will not do any better than 5th worst. Ducks are not going to catch us - 10 pits behind us with 8 games left. and Zegras is out. But tonight's two points may allow us to climb back into 6th or 7th. Losing to Flyers tomorrow is critical.

I gotta say, playing Kovacevic and Pezzetta in the shootout was as close to throwing the game as is possible at that point. I wonder if MSL had discussed this with Hughes - saying he'll compete all the way, but in a shootout after 3 shooters, he'll back off on doing anything to win and just give shootout chances to whoever played hard and not whoever has the best chance to score.

I think Marty wanted to reward guys with the oppty... the fact Pezz scored is a massive team building bonus... a lot of happiness on the trip to Philly.
