Man, Perreault was an unbelievable talent. Buffalo is a strong hockey city with loyal knowledgeable fans, but Perreault probably never got all the accolades he deserved since Buffalo is a small market.
If Allen is the starter tonight, he will need to be good to avoid getting his net filled with pucks. Buffalo is third in the league in goals. Though, of course, the reason they have only had a decent rather than good season is because they are bottom five in most defensive metrics.
Well, the Sabres are still in the hunt playoffs. However, it looks like a long shot given the fact that they would need jump not just one but two of the Panthers, Islanders, and Penguins.
Any word on whether Farrell will be in the lineup tonight?

Based on the lines at this morning’s skate, it does not look like it. Pitlick and Wideman are the extras. No mention of Farrell at all, so not sure if he has not joined the team quite yet (it could be later today).

Pitlick, Farrell. Pitlick, Farrell. Decisions, decisions. Farrell gets lots off praise as a prospect given he's done well in the NCAA. BUT, (there's always a but), it is the NCAA and he is 5'9" and one of the older collegiate players. Will be interesting to see how his game translates. But (another but), it's fair to say Pitlick ain't going to get any better and what he brings ain't enough. So let's see what the Harvard kid has.

Farrell seems to have surprised at every level he's played at. Matt Coronato, in an interview, said he loved playing with Farrell. He learned quickly that you have to be ready at any moment and have your stick on the ice because somehow or other, Farrell finds you in open space and you have to shoot quickly.
He has THE key ingredient you need for success in top leagues, and that's vision, IQ, high panic threshhold, whatever you call it. He just thinks the game faster than other players.

For sure, everyone wants to see Farrell. Pitlick is not a kid anymore and even casual fans I know can see the holes in his game.
It will be a pleasant surprise if Farrell pans out over the next couple of years. It would be magic for an undersized fourth round pick to make good. I think his pace and smarts are outstanding attributes. But, as you say habsorbed, it is tricky to project how his game at the NCAA level looks in the NHL. And I have a couple of buds who follow NCAA hockey closely (unless a Habs prospect is playing, I never watch because I generally find it to be boring) and they say Hockey East has evolved into a relatively weak conference (perhaps because the Big Ten has become the place to be). The Boston schools are pretty good (obviously Boston U. is on a nice run right now) but the overall depth of that conference is poor because some schools who used to be excellent programs (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine) have fallen off a cliff in recent years. So according to these guys, kids with offensive talent in Hockey East perhaps have inflated numbers because of the lack of stout competition night in night out.

Nice, the 'old' guy Anderson is not in net tonight, so the boys get to fire on one of two Sabres goalies who have literally been beer league level in 2022-23.

The Habs just recalled Primeau, which is really odd given that Laval is still just outside a playoff spot by a point or two. He has actually had some good games lately, but you would think he is better served in Laval getting them into the post season. Unless there is something wrong with Monty.

Geez, Comrie gives out juicy rebounds on half the shots he stops, too bad the Habs depleted lineup lacks the quality to make him pay.

Be competitive, make great plays, score, defend and lose another game. That's the key for a few more games. Have to ensure Arizona and Philly are far enough ahead to secure that 5th pick. That's a strong spot, especially in this good draft. And Ottawa needs to beat Florida. That would leave them 8 games to get by the Pens or Isles. More importantly, with some luck, Ottawa and Buffalo can sneak ahead of them, leaving us with the 12th pick as well. Twelfth is much better than `14th or 15th, because of the tiers and the simple value of higher picks. It could give Hughes more leverage in any potential trade.

Wow, not one of his typical goals, Gallagher looked like Richer picking his spot there and pinging it in off the post. Good for him reaching an important plateau, #200.

I'm convinced MTL is the only team in the world that thinks they can score on a 4 on 3 by constant passing. It sure bores the hell out of me
