He burns a year of his contract this season, which is a bit of a lure to sign with the team that drafted you. He will not be eligible to join Laval though. To do so, he would have had to do the same as Struble: start his ELC next season and sign a PTO for this year to play in the AHL.
He will join the team in Buffalo.

Cool, it will be interesting to see if quickness and IQ can make him a viable player at the pro level.
I do not really understand the whole USHL thing in terms of what ages are allowed in that league, etc. I notice Farrell has only played two seasons at Harvard but he is already 21 years old (22 in November). Didn't Poehling play three seasons at St. Cloud before he even turned 21?

It's pretty well a given that the better college prospects end up burning a year. If you don't give in on that point, they might just wait until August and turn UFA. I read in another tweet that Farrell, even though he's only played 2 years in NCAA, is technically considered a senior next year because he took classes in a Covid year and accelerated his academic standing. He's set to graduate from Harvard this summer pending a final exam. While I tend to suspect Harvard is not the school it's reputation suggests (I can't help noticing how some Harvard grads make dumb decisions in business), it's still an achievement to graduate from there (unless your pop is some rich jerk who built a wing on campus and bought your degree). Farrell is not lacking in the proverbial brains, which is a nice match with Marty and many of our other kids.

Not sure if they have an overager rule for guys who turn 20 in the season like the Canadian leagues. As for Harvard, they shut down their hockey program for one season due to COVID, so Farrell stayed that year in the USHL with Chicago Steel to keep playing some hockey but enrolled in his Harvard program online to still start school on schedule.
