I had no recollection of the Gordie Howe led Whalers playing in the Forum. I certainly remember the '86 playoff series. Guys like Roy and Lemieux had the clutch gene from the very start of their NHL careers.
Bad teams can beat good teams, such is life in the world's best league. But given the sad state of the Habs roster and an obsessively focused opponent coming off a rare loss, I imagine Montreal gets nothing out of this one.

RHP is now 8th in rookie goal scoring in less than half a season. There is very little worth watching right now & he is about it for me. |

HP must be, better be, hurt. I've seen all I need of Armia and he ain't part of our future if we want it to be brighter. Then again, perhaps it's all part of the tank. Armia ain't going to be contributing to any win.
As I recall HP got a pretty good hit last game which led to Farrell moving up with Suze and staying there.

RHP did miss practice for a “therapy day” yesterday, so there may be something there that he is not 100%.

I believe Howe played with the NHL Whalers in the 1979-80 season. I saw Howe play that sesson at a game at Maple Leaf Gardens. As I remember it, he scored a goal, whipping in a wrister. Then it hit me later that night. He was patrolling the ice,no helmet & I'm sure most of the players were scared to go near him. The guy was 52 years old. Amazing. |

That is putrid. The defensively challenged line of Gurianov-Pitlick-Armia manage to get hemmed in for like forever and none of them are even within twenty feet of the shooter on the point just taking his time picking his spot.

Montembeault is playing great in a very unenviable situation. There is only one NHL team on the ice tonight and he is the goalie for the other team.

Approaching the 8 minute mark of the 2nd. 7 shots & nothing close to challenging Raanta.
Trapped in their zone for extended periods. Hard to watch.

Not sure what the Skjei is complaining about (actually Staal was the wanker doing most of the complaining). Pezzetta did not have the puck.
Point in case why management should have more not fewer guys who bring physicality and finish their checks. Opponents hate it.
I know Armia just came back after six weeks (no idea what was the problem) but I have counted two or three super obvious instances tonight where he declined to finish a check. He is not a guy I want on the fourth line next season or anywhere on the roster for that matter.

Nobody has looked good. Outshot 35-9. No dangerous chances, no physical play. Guys like Drouin, Hoffman, Armia are just playing out the string. Getting them off the roster, even for nothing, improves the team. |

Montembeault is playing heroically. Pezzetta is finishing his checks and drew a penalty. Harris and Kovacevic are battling well. None of the four lines are accomplishing anything offensively and a couple of them are not working hard enough defensively. This is a sad state of affairs.

It was ugly. But I'm impressed it took them to the last 6 games of the season to pack it in. Anyway, it's all for the tank now. so good result, bad entertainment.
