Lot of comments from leaf fans along the lines of " well the Habs should have played a better game". Of course their memory is short because they've forgotten how bad they were in 2016 ( worst record in the league) when Matthew's was a available. All they had to do to guarantee a loss was play Bernier in goal. I'm with Leaf fans on this one. The Habs should have played better. I have no problem with the Leafs pouring it on and putting their top PP unit out in a blowout. The Patriots used to do this all the time. Play hard for 60 minutes and keep trying to score when you have the ball. Tom Brady would be out there throwing touchdowns in the 4th quarter with the Pats up 45-14. He would say every play, every series is important, an opportunity to execute, make plays, build success, build confidence. You don't stop playing because the game is in hand. The Habs should have played better. They got what they deserved.

Maybe NE did that but I dont think it's something that's commonly accepted.
I'd like to see the Leaf fans comments after they are blown out & it has happened this year. Better yet, I wonder how they felt in 2015/16 when they were on their way to worst overall. There's some hypocrisy there.

Why was everyone calling this goalie an ebug? He was not an ebug. An ebug could potentially play on either team. This kid was signed by Toronto to be a normal back up for this one game so they could stay under the cap. Not an ebug. A signed player. Hmm. How could that confusion happen? The guy was signed to play in an emergency, for one game, as a backup. Maybe they should have called him an EBURR...an emergency backup relief replacement. Well he is likely going to be more than that now. Since the Leafs signed Knies so close to the playoffs they are no longer allowed to use an EBUG, unless Samsonov gets hurt for real. They could have not signed Knies and used the cap space to call up Woll. Any emergency now, is one of their own creation . So this Alexander kid, a signed player, could potentially play now to ensure Samsonov doesn’t get hurt in the last two games

I have no idea why Toronto signed Knies & went through these moves for 3 games.
Samsonov is playing tonight backed up by another goalie with no pro experience named Nick Chenard. Coincidentally he is wearing the same # Alexander wore on Saturday - 40.

I could care less about Keefe giving that Alexander kid a minute of NHL action. The Maple Leafs power play had plenty of reps on Saturday (and plenty of success) before the last one in question. I think it is idiotic and classless to put the top guys out there at 6-1 for a power play late in the third period. That is when you toss your fourth liners and third pair guys a bone. If your leaders are stand up guys that is exactly who they would want to see rewarded with a power play shift.
However, Wideman is about the last guy who needs to come out and talk about it. In reality, Montembeault is the only guy on the Habs who earned the right complain about anything Saturday.

I'm not sure why people are so PO'd at Wideman. He said out loud what a lot of are thinking - including me.

I think Wideman took one for the team... he knows everyone in the habs dressing room felt the same way especially Monty... also he may be done in the NHL as a regular but I'm sure he got lots of props from his teammates and I'm sure from other players in the league... Inflating artificial stats is the current leafs roster M.O.

I agree, if he gets a sniff it's because the Habs have injuritis next year, the medical staff should be fired

I also wonder if we can get a completely insane return for him at the deadline at 50%, his cap hit would be essentially nil for an acquiring team. (completely insane for a guy whose a 7th D on a non-playoff team would be a 3d rounder IMO).

Everyone has them in their system so there's no need to go elsewhere for them.

Well, he's still better than Scheneman, and we can move him at 50%.... 50% of minimum wage is less than anyone can have within their own system.
