Round 1
Boston over Florida - Bruins in 5. Florida has goaltending issues no matter who they use.
TB over Toronto- Bolts in 7. They fought TB was vulnerable last year and look what happened. And I can't pick the Leafs to win - ever.
NJ and NY. Rangers in 6. I like the Devils but Shesterkin give NY a big edge in net.
Carolina and Isles. Canes in 5. They are very disciplined and the Isles just squeaked in because Pitt faded.
Vegas - Jets. Knights in 5
Avs - Kraken. Avs in 4. Kraken did well to get to playoffs but it ends here.
Wild - Stars, stars in 6. Oettinger will be a big factor.
Oilers - Kings. Oilers in 6. I don't trust their goaltending but there is just so much firepower,

BOSTON-FLORIDA - FLORIDA in 6 TORONTO-TAMPA BAY - LEAFS in 5 CAROLINA-ISLANDERS - CAROLINA in 5 NEW JERSEY-RANGERS - Rags in 6 WESTVEGAS-WINNIPEG - JETS in 7 COLORADO-SEATTLE - COLORADO in 4 MINNESOTA-DALLAS - DALLAS in 7 EDMONTON-LOS ANGELES - EDMONTON in 6 I can't recall if those were the exact number of games for each series. Explanations: Florida/Boston. Everything that could go right for Boston in the regular season, did. Everything than can go wrong for them in the playoffs, will. Gut feel. Evenutually it all will boil down to goaltending. I'm still not convinced Ullmark is that good. Leafs/Tampa. Leafs bottom 6 much better than Tammpa's Canes/Islanders. Who knows? flip a coin. Isles should have better goaltending. Neither team is a scoring team, but Canes have KK, playoff beast. Rangers/Devs. Devils going through it for the first time. Experience counts in this one. Vegas/Jets. Going with the better goaltender Avs/Kraken. Seattle comes down to earth Wild/Stars. For some reason I just don't like the Wild. It's personal and I have no idea why. Fleury chokes, maybe that's it. I'm still miffed over the WJC. Oil/Kings Lots of young kids going through playoffs for the first time. That and the fact Oilers have won a few games lately with the bottom 6 doing the scoring. It's not all about McJesus and Draisaitl any more. Should make life difficult for LA. Other than that, I got nothing. And I could be wrong on every series, but those are my darts. I only hope I'm bang on on the first one.  |

The first round is always great. There will be upsets, though I rarely predict them correctly...
Boston's deep, talented blue liners should frustrate the Panthers and keep Ullmark steady. And when Florida gets frustrated, the refs will call a ton of penalties on them. (Bruins in 5)
Toronto's elite guys are generally younger than Tampa's. Toronto's depth on the blue line is better than Tampa's. And this year it seems like the Leafs have some guys in the bottom six who can both be physical and make some plays with the puck. For me the Lightning need to stay out of the box and Vasilevsky needs to outplay Samsonov by a considerable margin in order to win this series, which reflects their status as the weaker team in the series. (Leafs in 5)
I have seen a couple pundits on TSN and Espn picking the Islanders and I guess I see the logic of Sorokin being a stud in front of an experienced group willing to play low event hockey. But I just think Carolina's withering forecheck will bother the Islander's d-men and create just enough high quality scoring chances. (Hurricanes in 7)
The Devils are fun, fast team, but New York seemingly has a big edge in terms of the pedigree of their goalie. And it just feels like this will probably be a factor in key moments where momentum is gained or lost. (Rangers in 6)
Winnipeg needs to avoid taking penalties and focus on wearing down Vegas' big minute forwards and d-men 5v5 in a long series, where the elite goalie gets more pivotal moments to rise to the occasion. (Jets in 6)
Colorado, even without Landeskog, should be too much in terms of possessing elite players who can tilt the balance of close games against an opponent probably being underestimated. (Avs in 7)
Stylistically this series does not seem immensely attractive; however, there will likely be a bunch of close games with dramatic game winning goals. I believe the Stars have just enough firepower to survive. (Stars in 6)
The Oilers-Kings rematch should be compelling because Los Angeles matches up really well 5v5. However, it seems McDavid will not let his team lose. Like last season, I see this one going the duration with the same result. (Oilers in 7)

I can't believe everyone and their dog picking Boston. The Panthers were an extremely frustrating team to me over the last 3 weeks of the season. They're one minute away from the final nail and the other team's goalie gives Tkachuk the puck and an empty net. How many omens do we need? I finally capitulated. If you can't beat 'em, join em.
PS. I hear Bergeron is questionable for the first game. Things starting to go wrong? (Twilight Zone theme music starts up)

Sports net staff did their picks. Their are a lot of names their (19) and a lot I didn't recognize.
Boston over Florida was unanimous. Leafs over Tampa was 16-3.
The cup winner was split with so many teams of course but EDM had a lot of support. Two picked the Leafs - Jamal Myra & Gord Stelick. I didn't think He even worked there.
There was a funny comment about Stellixk - " does he ever not pick the Leafs? He even picked them to win the NBA championship."

Florida is not even requiring the refs make shady questionable calls against them. They are so undisciplined taking lazy and dumb penalties, the refs do not even have to invent anything.

Penalties did them in. Bouchard called late in the 3rd led to the tying goal with just 17 seconds to go. Desharnais was flagged midway in OT which let to the winner. McDavid was pointless.
I known it's just one game but c'mon.

People wonder why Toronto fails so often. How about leadership . IMO Tavares is an overpaid PPG player who is on the wrong side of the plus minus. Now we know he's a crybaby. After seeing all the calls that we have seen go their way he has the nerve to say the refs are biased. It was just a week ago that leaf fans were telling Wideman that the Habs had to play better and respect the game. Now that are blaming the referees.

I just cant pick the Leafs no matter how much sense it makes. Sorry, I wont do it. Samsonov was good at times but his numbers are poor & Florida can throw a lot of shots at teams. Toronto did give up 21 goals in the 6 games with TB. If Bobrovsky plays up to expectations then maybe.
Canes in 6.
Schmid seems to be on a roll but the Canes can be relentless.
Kraken in 6.
I'm back & forth on this one. I know the Avs were hurting but the key guys were there and they still lost.
Oilers in 5.
McDavid is on a mission this year & he seems unstoppable. And Vegas doesnt have a number 1 goalie that can stop these hits.
