In my defense, I completely forgot that Palat was playing for NJ. He needs to join PK on the Clutch Playoff roster. Raises his game and always seems involved in important goals. Brisebois erred in letting him walk. Should have moved Killorn. As an aside,that Nick Paul contract will likely bite Julien in the butt and Jeanot is going to want the same. Paying bottom 6 guys that kind of money (unless they're a centre) is nuts.

SERIES A - TOR-FLA

Leafs in 6? Monkey off their back, Samsonov playing well, Ekblad injured (though Barkov may be back to health). Just seems like Florida's overall defence is whacky (they gave up a ton of goals) and I think Samsonov will outplay Ullmark/Swayman and Florida won't score as easily.

SERIES B - CAR-JERSEY

This one may be the closest, but Carolina has had trouble scoring without Pacioretty and Svechnikov. The Schmid has been a surprise for the Devs, shoring up a key weakness. Can he keep it up? Hughes, Hischier and Mercer are a tough 3 centres and then there's the secret weapon, Palat. Tatar broke the ice too and if he starts to score....ouch. Anyway, Devils over the Canes in 6.

SERIES C - DAL-SEA

This should supposedly be the easiest and I'm going to diss the Kraken again. Dallas in 5. Grubauer has been Seattle's key and for once, I don't think he'll win the goaltending battle. Dallas in 4, maybe 5. (I told you I was going to diss Seattle)

SERIES D - VEGAS-EDM

Ok, now we get to the toughest. This one is literally a coin flip. McDavid has been quiet so far if you call 10 points in 6 games 'quiet'. Danault seemed to have his number. Does Vegas have a Danault? Edmonton better offense, Vegas better defense. The Oilers don't have a stud like Pietrangelo on D. Centre strength is tough too. Does Draisaitl play centre on the second line? or RNH? But then we have to go back to goaltending. It will be Skinner vs...Broissoit ? Vegas is really rolling the dice wit their goaltenders, so I'm going Oilers in 7. maybe 6.

These are all toss-ups imo . . . and I toss my cookies by saying

Toronto in 6 over Florida (boy I hope I'm wrong)

Carolina in 6 over a feisty Jersey team

Dallas in 6 over (I guess I like the term) feisty Kraken

Edmonton in 6 (I guess I like the number) over Vegas (and Bettman starts to panic over a possible Canadian final)

Florida has literally been playing elimination games for six weeks. For a team that lacks depth, particularly on defense, I think the Panthers will be running on fumes physically. Toronto in five.

Given the guys Carolina is missing due to injury, it seems as though New Jersey has a great chance to emerge from the Metro. However, the Canes are just so tiring to deal with because they hound the puck relentlessly and empty the tank every shift defending as five man units. It would not surprise me if the home team wins every game in this series. Carolina in seven.

Against a structured team with a stud like Oettinger in net, the Kraken are going to struggle to score goals. Seattle works really hard and efficiently in front of their own goalies, but I just doubt Grubauer is the wall that would be needed to gut out four wins against the Stars. Dallas in seven.

It would be great to see McDavid advance and I believe the Oilers are equipped to win this series. But they need to get a split in Vegas and as a general rule avoid playing from behind against a team with a lot of wily veterans. I think the Oilers can get it done even if power play chances are few and far between. Edmonton in six.

Other than a Leafs' exit, nothing has been too predictable this year.

The only exception is halihab in Round 1, who nailed 3 winner-game combos and 3 other winners. The 2 series he missed were missed by most--both huge upsets. Bruins and Avalanche.

seventeen picked up the only point in the Bruins' series--selecting Florida.

folatre got the only point in the Avs' series--correct # of games.

Just thinking first. Scoring bugs need to be worked out. My apologies.

Because of the "unpredictability" factor, ha....I wanted to keep participants involved by increasing the scoring system for Round 3. But it would severely widen the gap between a combo prediction and a miss...i.e. 12-0. Plus, it would penalize correct combo predictions in Rounds 1 and 2. The same system should be used in each Round. No need to get "wacky".

I think picking the correct team should be worth more than # of games.

So, how about a new scoring system applied retroactively to all rounds.

Correct team: 2 pts.
Correct games: 1 pt.

Possible scores for all series: 0, 1, 2, or 3.

The correct predictors will still come out on top...it's just that the gap won't be so unnecessarily wide.

Again, my apologies. Ironing out the wrinkles for next time.

I'll have the new tally here before the Finals begin on Saturday.
