What a let down. That was the one name I didn't want to hear. Was hoping Smith, would be happy with Michkov or Leonard, was dreading this name. Where's the homerun swing with this franchise?

Well, Arizona going totally off the board for a d-man probably confirms Hughes' apparent fear that his guy (Reinbacher) would not have been there if he traded down to the #7-9 range.
I guess my question is what exactly about Reinbacher screams difference-maker.

This pick sits squarely on Gorton and Hughes doorstep. I have no great confidence in Bobrov, but the Head of Amateur Scouting does not call the shot in the first round, at least certainly not a pick at the top of the round.

If Reinbacher is another Moritz, no one will look back. If he is a 2nd pairing guy and Michkov comes over that’s another issue altogether. The criticism will be fierce.

CH, sure, Reinbacher may be the best d-man prospect in the draft (I would say he is), but this draft was stacked with high ceiling offensive difference-makers with Bedard and the next tier (Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, and Smith) so taking Reinbacher at #5 seems like an safe though entirely uninspired choice.
