Actually, they should check out Mike Milbury. He has experience contributing into building winners. Everywhere else but his own team, but let's not be fussy. I disliked Mike Milbury as a player, a coach, a GM, and later, as a hockey pundit ... I remember he and Al Strachan just hated each other, and they'd constantly be trying to one-up each other in the rumours de jour department ... they were entertaining, but I remember Strachan constantly striking out on just about all of his predictions ... Milbury was just a blustery irritant, but that's only me ... Cheers.

Other than Bowman, thats a lot of money spent for not a lot of results. Lamoriello and Holland in particular are being paid for what they did in the past. Jeje, the old goats like Lamoriello and Holland put some silverware in their old clubs trophy cases so that is the way the market works even if it seems foolish to place so much emphasis on results that literally happened 20+ years ago. Coaches are the same way, I suppose. How else could Julien get 5x5 in Montreal if not for the fortuitous Cup he won in Boston? Actually, many days after my brother-in-law was quoting those numbers to me, I heard Kypreos use those same numbers on his podcast.

One can either pin a gold star on some GM's, or one can chalk their success up to good old fashioned luck. In Holland's case, as we know, drafting Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk with late darts made his career. Talent....or luck? Usually you hit on a player in a late round and they top out at aa 2nd liner or a 2nd pair...and that's if you're lucky. With Lamoriello, it's all about Scott Neidermayer, a born winner. One might attribute this to good scouting, but the track record of Lamoriello in scouting is hardly heart warming. He seemed to hit on the occasional star if he had a high pick. If he was in the 20-30 range, his track record is awful. Kinda like (and this might annoy a few people) Joe Sakic. MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Byram, Landeskog....excellent players, but all top 4 picks except Rantanen at 10. Check out the Colorado drafting when they're not in the top 10. (Which is scary when one of your prospects, Barron, was one of those guys) Anyway, the point is that you have to dig a bit deeper to judge how good a GM is. Trading might be the least necessary requirement. Drafting and development top the list IMO, and then CAP management (unless you're a southern US team). That's my advice to Shanahan. (My actual first piece of advice would be to tap Betman with a Louisville Slugger until he changes the CAP rules to after tax dollars).

And now Dubas is POHO for the Pens. Announced on the same day as the Toronto civic holiday to announce Treliving as their new GM, a day that will feature non stop TSN and Sportnet documentaries on the life and times of Treliving. Gripping drama.

Considering GM Dubas did not win much of anything with the Leafs in a plum situation with his best players in their prime, I think it is no accident he has elected to steer clear of the GM chair in Pittsburgh where the core is entering their late 30s.
As President, Dubas can very likely ride out stagnation phase followed by the rebuild phase, and not truly get scrutinized until like 6-8 years down the road. Whereas if he is the GM and they are fizzling out during Malkin, Letang, and Crosby's last chances to make noise, the Fenway Group is probably doing to fire the man wearing the GM hat.
I think Dubas made the 'smart' decision to insulate himself here, though it kind of screams I don't have the stones to be the GM in a precarious environment.

What has Dubas ever done to be PoHo of anything... led a team to playoff futility... man the nhl is a funny business... it's government like

Shouldn’t the 7689 days also apply to the GM
Dubas didn’t get out of the second round, Treviling hasn’t been out of the second round …

Gripping drama. I hope the move to Pittsburgh isn’t too hard on Dubas’ family. He said he would only work in Toronto, no where else. Money and control has a way of making tough family decisions like moving, new schools, which Mercedes to by the kids, … you know 1%er problems… much easier to make them suffer through

I know I won't be in his corner cheering for him to succeed. Seems like he is fully indoctrinated into the greed culture.
