Thought I'd start a thread on the Mem Cup, where we have 2 prospects, Owen Beck with Peterborough and Jared Davidson with Seattle. They meet today in the first game for both. The games are on TSN.

It should be good hockey with a nice level of interest for Habs fans. I assume Seattle is the favorite?

Beck with a beauty. He had a penalty for kneeing earlier. Definitely engaged in this game.

Beck with a beauty. He had a penalty for kneeing earlier. Definitely engaged in this game. Slew footing last week & kneeing today. If he's not careful he will get a bad rep.

The kneeing was not an intent to injure. He had his legs wide to stabilize as he was trying an open ice hit and was leading with his shoulder. The Seattle guy evaded the hit but Beck’s knee clipped him and tripped him. Definitely two minutes worthy, but not a malicious hit.

Davidson’s assist in the 6-3 Seattle win to kick off their Memorial Cup.
Today’s game features Peterborough (Beck) Vs host Kamloops at 6:00pm ET on TSN. Both teams lost their first games, so a huge game as they both want to avoid going 0-2 in the short round robin. This is where the annual debate about the format of the Memorial Cup comes up, especially for fans of the one team that gets eliminated after the three game round robin.

Here is Beck’s penalty. The author of the tweet does put a rather dramatic spin on it though.

My understanding is that the suspension was not rescinded- just carried over to next season.

My understanding is that the suspension was not rescinded- just carried over to next season. Correct. The OHL/CHL does not have officiating responsibilities for the suspensions in the Memorial Cup, it is actually NHL Player Safety. They ruled he can play. The OHL has a minimum two game suspension for slew foot majors, so Beck served one in the OHL finals (deciding game) and will have to serve one to start next season. All strange, but true.

Kamloops definitely shook off the rust at the expense of Peterborough as they were flying, scoring early and often in a totally dominating 10-2 win. The Petes are definitely in a hole now at 0-2. Tonight’s game is as follows:
Seattle (Davidson) vs Quebec 9:00pm ET on TSN
It is a battle of the two 1-0 teams and the winner is in a great position to move closer to that top spot and bye into the final.

Quebec, with their win over Seattle last night, clinch a spot in the Final. They will wrap up their round robin against Peterborough (Beck) tonight at 9:00pm ET. The Petes must win to avoid being eliminated from playoffs with an 0-3 record.
Seattle’s top line has been far too invisible so far in their two games. Davidson played a quietly solid game last night. He does a lot of little things, but does not stand out in any particular attribute. Back to the top line. Guenther…where are you? Get going buddy. Jets fans must get so frustrated watching Lambert as he has great speed and good hands, but his decision making with the puck is just awful. A giveaway machine that gets tunnel vision and tries to do it all himself. It no longer works against good junior competition, so it will only get tougher against pros. And Edmonton’s pick of big boi Schaefer is definitely overrated to me. I really wonder about his hockey IQ.
A fun draft note. All four starting goalies are undrafted. I can see Milic getting a late round look this year and Rousseau from Quebec would be an interesting free agent look.

Davey with a primary assist already in the battle of the Dub for the berth in the semi (loser to tie breaker tomorrow against Peterborough).

Davey #29 with the backhand shot that leads to the first goal of the game. 1-1 now.

Seattle went 16-3 in the WHL playoffs. Two of those three losses were to Kamloops in the semis.
I like Seattle to win the entire thing, but the Blazers are good (first game against Quebec being the exception).

Davey Gravy makes it 2-1, and then Seattle pots another 8 seconds later.
Top line still MIA though.

Sure looks like Kamloops wants yet another date with Seattle tomorrow night. Peterborough just is not generating much for a do-or-die game.
Edit: And right away the Blazers turn it over and it is 4-2. We shall see.
Edit2: Tie game now late in the second. 😆

Wow. Kelowna dominated in OT had numerous chances to end it and couldn’t. Beck picks it up in transition and drops it to the trailer who buried it. Goodnight Blazers

Goodnight Blazers I know you guys both meant Kamloops, when you said Kelowna. Unless, of course, you've been dipping into the magic mushroom jar while we weren't looking.

All those Thompson-Okanagan cities/towns look the same to us yahoos with red plates! 😉 I was marveling at some of the shots TSN was showing of various Kamloops locations and I kept thinking,"wow, that looks better than when I drive there". There was some rain recently so some of the areas have greened up somewhat, and other areas are irrigated, but Kamloops is technically located in a desert and Kelowna is not far off that, so yeah most of the year they look at lot alike, brown and dry (but don't tell that to the Kelowna people with their 30 floor apartment blocks).

The last junior game of the season. The last game for one last Habs prospect still playing hockey.
Seattle (Davidson) Vs Quebec 7:00pm ET TSN
Two very good teams worthy of the final, but I will be unabashedly cheering for our prospect and the team from the Dub!
