Hughes has done a good job accumulating picks, 2023 is no different... it's a great year to have high picks(if only the stupid pens played better down the stretch)... anyways we have a plethora of picks and I can't see Hughes keeping all of them, so I see some packaging to move up or hopefully get another Dach type...
1st Round – 5th Overall
1st Round – 31st Overall
2nd Round – 37th Overall
3rd Round – 69th Overall
4th Round – 101st Overall
4th Round – 110th Overall
4th Round – 128th Overall
5th Round – 133rd Overall
5th Round – 144th Overall
6th Round – 165th Overall
7th Round – 197th Overall

It is nice to have a lot of irons in the development fire, in particular if some of them are stashed away over in Europe. But, yeah, prospect pools can be overfilled and Montreal is probably getting to that point. Ultimately there are only so many pro contracts that can be extended to the kids.
I have no idea how the next 7-8 days will transpire for Montreal. Hughes is not shy about making deals. But this mean he is trading up? Or trading down? Or maybe flipping a kid and a pick for a talented kid that needs a change of scenery.

I heard the blues are looking to move people...I wonder if we could grab a Kyrou or Thomas out of their hands with the a package that includes the 5th

While it's nice to have a plethora of picks, having seven that are 4th rounders or worse is a lot of nothing burgers. The odds of them making it are very remote

The odds of them making it are very remote I expect some of the 4th and 5th rounders get used to trade up within rounds, or get flipped for similar picks in other years. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see #69, a 4th and a 5th used to move up to #50 if a guy they thought wouldn't be available slips. (ie, a Latendresse type deal, we got him at #45 for 56 and 66 )

No such luck this year as there's a world of difference between #13 and #31. We're not putting up the #5 unless there's a hell of a player coming back our way. Something like Drysdale or Clarke and even then I'd want more.

The odds of those guys becoming NHL'rs are remote. Lately, however, we can point out Jared Davidson, Joshua Roy, Sean Farrell and RHP as later picks who, while not NHL'rs yet, are at least knocking at the door or have pushed it open (RHP). They may not end up on the Habs, but I would not be surprised in the least to see them in NHL uniforms in the next year or two. Maybe just the sheer volume helps, but Timmins/Churla and the current regime have done a much better than average job with late picks. I left Adam Engstrom out because he was a 3rd rounder, but at pick #97, that's not exactly prime picking territory either. Now we may go 5 years without hitting on another late round pick, but better to have a lot of picks than to have too few. We don't need to sign them all. What I'd love is to have a lot of first and 2nd round picks to improve the chances of an elite player.
