I like this pick. This guy though undersized, plays a gritty game. This is turning out to be an interesting draft.

not bad was invited to be one of the 44 players in the top prospect game, didn't play because he got injured. so a potential 1st rounder picked up in the 3rd.

Even more from Max Giese. www.sharkspage.com/2007_nhl_draftpreview.html61. C Olivier Fortier, 5-11 170, 5-2-1989, Rimouski 69 gp – 28 g – 36 a – 64 points. ++ Defensive play, speed + Grit - Lacks top end offensive talent Reminiscent of Ottawa Senator Antoine Vermette, Fortier is a fast and gritty center whose specialty is killing penalties and taking care of his own zone first. He’s a great skater with very quick feet. He accelerates rapidly and he also owns an explosive top gear that he uses mostly to wreak havoc on the oppositions breakout as he gets in on his man in a hurry on the forecheck. Fortier is small but is strong on his feet and finishes every check. He loves to get his nose dirty and he excels in traffic areas. He anticipates the game well as he’s dynamic at creating turn overs and then with his speed he’s gone the other way. Fortier is one of the drafts best penalty killers and is also strong on face offs. He’s a gritty kid who plays with passion every night. The knock on Olivier is that he lacks offensive upside and will top out as a third liner at the most. That said, he’s a safe pick and brings the intangibles that a team needs to win.

I like this pick too (especially since I had the Habs making it!), but I'm not sure the upside is there to be an NHL player... and in what role? Perhaps as a Steve Begin shift-disturber?

Timmins on Fortier:
"“Ditto for Olivier Fortier for example,” added Timmins. “He’s in the same mould as a Maxim Lapierre. He’s doesn’t know the meaning of taking a shift off.”

I have a feeling that Fortier will score a lot of points this coming season. Rimouski is a team on the verge of breaking out, and they have some serious offensive talent up front with Fortier, Tanguay, Gratchev, etc. I think he will have a similar post draft year to Ben Maxwell, and probably score 100+ points.

Also Rimouski gets a really good coach in Clément Jodoin, I have no clue how many points he will score, but Rimouski should be much better next season then they were this year.

If Frolik comes back to the Q next season, Rimouski will have an offensive powerhouse along the lines of the London Knights or the Sidney Crosby team. Frolik, Gratchev, Skokan, Tanguay, Fortier, along with some of the best younger talent in the league in Cormier, Caron, and Cornet. If Jodoin lets them loose it is scary to think what they could do.
