The Avs had nothing to lose by signing Jonathan Drouin ... at the league minimum, it was a no-brainer ... low-risk, potentially-high return ... whether he got a fair shake in Montreal depends on which side of the fence you're on ... besides, as far as Montreal is concerned, the drama should be over now ... Cheers. You gotta help me there Dis? How did Drouin not get a fair shake in Mtl? He was given every opportunity, and then some, to excel or even perform and he never did. Why is that on anyone else but Drouin? Should they have sent him to Laval to work on his game, or not put him on the PP with all the pressure? I would have been good had they done either. Well, at one point I thought he might have warranted a stretch with the Rocket ... he was given a lot of support from the team and the fans, but it hasn't worked out ... honestly, I don't care how many points he (might) put up playing the Nathan McKinnon, he's proven that he's not an elite talent, at least for now, anyway ... Cheers.

Drouin is now 28. There is not going to be any transformation in his play.

the results; Sergachev is right on schedule, while Drouin crashed and burned (out?) ... it's all spilled milk now, man ... Cheers. What this is a great example about is that one catastrophic mistake can set you back a ton. Bergie made a lot of moves, but almost always small ones. The acquisition of Danault, at the time, was a small one. We gave up replaceable 3rd liners for a prospect who turned out very well. The Petry deal was a small one...giving up a second rounder only. When we get into bigger territory, the record is not so good. The Sergachev and Subban deals were not good. The Subban deal not so much as both players ended up with injury issues. Berg gave up a fan favourite and lots of unsold jerseys for a guy who played against the #2 lines in the league and was rarely an offensive threat 5 on 5. No need to go into the Sergachev/Drouin deal. Another one that wasn't BIG and wasn't a trade with another team, was Berg's negotiating with Markov, who was always a straight up guy on the team. I think Berg had his mind made up even before starting negotiations with Andrei. He signed Alzner, so he had what he thought was leverage on his side. That only proves how bad his judgment was. Alzner was no where near Markov in talent, even with Andrei at age 38. Two years of Markov would have been a lot better for the team than 5 years of lost CAP space. The warning signs were there early when Bergie hired his friends, but Molson let it go on too long. It was clear after the 3rd year that Price was the main factor in the team's success. You usually give a GM 5 years to see if they have it or not. Molson got sucked in for that next 5 years contract. Thank god it's over. Bergevin’s biggest mistakes were he always seemed to neglect adding to the team and settled for replacing (lateral moves) players The two biggest examples being 1) As you mentioned Alzner for Markov 2) And I’ve always maintained that trading Sergachev for Drouin wasn’t the mistake made in that trade. The biggest mistake in that trade was that Bergevin then gave Radulov the cold shoulder. We were on the cusp of finally adding a piece to the offense, but it abruptly turned into Drouin replacing Radulov

Don't forget the signing or trading of many defenceman that played like him ( no. 5 and 6's) galore.

Cheers. He might put up some points with the Avs but whatever success he has with the Avs, he wasn't going to do it in Mtl. He simply doesn't have the mental strength to handle the pressure, contrary to his early claims, nor is he prepared for the rough going. so even if he has a good regular season, he will be useless come playoffs. i suppose the argument might made that Hughes should have seen his worth outside Mtl and got something in return. But the reality is no gm has any faith in Drouin's ability to excel which is why we got nothing for him at the deadline and he only got the bare minimum as a FA. Bottomline: Avs are taking a flyer on Drouin and if he bombs no biggie for them.
