General discussion and some points about Edmy and Reinbacher.
There are some vets going or gone for pocket change, but Hughes has no intent to change.
Row, row, row the boat....

As other have mentioned, Edmunston is 30 with a history of back problems that caused him to miss a lot of time. I wasnt expecting much back.
As for the 5th pick, yes I was PO'd about Michkov. But if the things we are now wearing are true, he wasn't available anyway.

I'll give HuGo this year to iron out some things, get rid of the rest of the dead weight, get the kids some valuable ice time but I expect a competitive team this year and a playoff team next year and a contender the year after that.

I think that was always the plan. I had 2025 as a playoff team. If you look at our contracts, 2026 when we start getting some real cap space to sign a difference maker. Draistl would look real good on this team 😀

He has a fantastic shot and is offensively gifted but a turnover machine and a defensive liability. Hard pass for me. I'd spend that money elsewhere. Too much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for a one dimensional player.

I can't think of a more uneventful, if not disappointing draft or FA week for Le Club. Other than Newhook, and he is far from established, i don't see how this team has got any better. Now that may be part of the plan to let the kids develop and hope for fewer injuries but i really don't see a playoff team here. And maybe the plan is one more tank year. I guess that's what a 5 year rebuild is all about, but i'm not sure i have the patience or the ego to go 3 years in a row with no playoffs. But HuGo not only has to rebuild the worst team in the league, he has to get rid of some brutal signings that MB left behind. So i suppose getting rid of Drouin is a big plus, but waiting and watching these painfully long contracts wind their way down is hard to handle. If only HuGo could figure out a way to dump the Armia, Hoffman, Dvo and Gally other than waiting out the contract or retaining salary. If only HuGo could start thinking about the meaning of my life and other things he could do to make me happy.

I don't expect playoffs this year. I just want the guys that are there to give it their all. Prove they can play every night and improve. For some, that basically means to stay healthy. I was praying for a rebuild for so long, I'm not gonna complain now that they're doing it. Stay the course. We don't need overpriced vets that'll come here and 'Hoffman' the whole deal. We can get those when we are ready to contend.
As far as contracts are concerned, I'd love to get rid of Armia and Hoffman. Ship them to TR if you have to. Dvo, I can deal with, he doesn't hurt us much and he can win faceoffs. Gally is a different story. Someone has to show the kids how hard you have to play in this league to stay in this league when your position on the top lines isn't assured. Sure his contract sucks, but we do have the room under the cap for him and I'm not paying. Besides I see him finishing the way Price, Weber and Byron are/did. I don't see him ever finishing that contract in the lineup. But right now, he's important for culture. The same reason Chicago got Perry and Foligno. The same reason people wanted to keep Belzile in Laval. An anti-Hoffman or anti-Drouin if you will.
I think HuGo are on the right track even if I don't agree with all the little things they've done. As long as the team shows progression. That progression might be small this year because we will rely on the younghins more. So be it. And I reserve the right to change my mind as the season goes along, but it won't vary that much.

Geeze guys...no plans for the playoffs next year?
For all it's worth, I think that if we don't go on another injury spree and we get some overall average goaltending from Sam and Jake, the playoffs are within reach. Ok, I'm being a glass full full guy, but look at the teams that made the playoffs this past year.
Boston - the ship is sinking as the UFA's leave in droves. Orlov is gone, Hall is gone. Bertuzzi is gone. That's a lot of quality. Sheesh, they brought Lucic back. Seriously?
Florida - They likely have some players who damaged certain body parts taking excessive pain killers. They will also face that inevitable hockey version of postpartum depression. They were ever so, so close and couldn't quite pull it off. That is so frustrating and depressing knowing how hard it was and how much luck is involved to get there and still fail. Sheesh, I'm getting depressed myself just thinking about it.
Tampa - might still squeeze in. Aging team, losing a lot of depth, but they still have quality in some of those older players. It's close, though. Their pipeline dried up and the replacements aren't in hand. Losing depth hurts.
Buffalo - they might make the next leap. Levi will have to be good. There's a lot of young talent waiting to explode
DEtroit? Their good kids aren't ready yet and Yzerman is making some puzzling deals. Daniel Sprong? Justin Holl? That's a waste of $5.4MM. Marco Kasper may join the team. They'll be a little bit better but the goaltending is questionable.
The Metropolotan?
Carolina and New Jersey are in.
the Islanders are pretenders. Done like dinner. Lou's horseshoes traveled to Cranbrook with Scott Neidermayer years ago.
The Rangers? For such a promising looking team, they sure didn't impress anyone. Panarin turns 32 in October. Zibanejad is 30. Kreider is 32 and starting to slide. Shesterkin alone is enough to get them to the playoffs and probably will, but this is a team that will start experiencing scoring woes, unless Blake Wheeler and Alex Belzile rejuvenate them.
See, lots of possibilities....if a zillion things fall into place. But change happens...all the time.

But i think both Buff and Ott are well positioned to replace them before us. Notice you didn't mention the Leafs -with good reason. I fear Trevling may have hit pay dirt these last few days. I'm not worried about Reaves - he's yesterday's goon. But Klingberg, Domi, and Beruzzi is a pretty impressive haul. Lots of depth both up front and on D. I posted a number of years ago, that it was only a matter of time before Domi ended up in TO. He will be a man possessed - might want to keep handy your photo of Tie with his Habs jersey on. Who knows what Bertuzzi will do with Matthews or Tavares. And Klinberg is a strong dman. I guess we can only hope the goaltending will remain suspect.

Laffs loaded up very well and for once in their miserable existence, they signed some good talent.

Patience, There is a great deal of potenetial some obvious some maybe not so much to us (well at least me anyway ) i figure it makes more sense to give it at least this season which hopefully proves to be healthy as that is something so long ago for this team. A healthy season where the youngsters get a chance to rise or fall into new roles, build some character on the roster. it will be a lot easier to fill holes and find out what we really need once the view is from at least slightly higher on the mountainside so to speak. Not much going on signings wise or trade wise but there was an old joke about a bull and his son looking down on the field of cattle .. son was in a hurry to just run down and get the job done Dad thought walking made more sense.
