Gorton doubling down on his crappy #7 pick. Isn't this the clown that threw his silver medal into the stands at the world junior? Oh ya, charactor plus

In a flooded, pretty soft FA market where I'm actually surprised how cheap some are signing, Hughes can't find a single NHL player that can help us. Not even for short term. Not one.
I'm waiting for the inevitable new variation on an old trope..signing NHL free agents is hard"

I don't know Lias A just adds to the logjam. And I thought Berg liked to dumpster shop

And I thought Berg liked to dumpster shop If two separate administration are dumpster diving then it's a company prerequisite. For the record...I have deep respect for Mol$ons money.

We had too many D and still have too many forwards, why should we add anything but depth players on 2-way contracts ?!?

ROR would of been nice for our paper thin center core AND to actually finish somewhere other then the basement.
Unless basement is the preffered destination for yhe foreseable future...😧

I do not like Andersson as a player. And with Gorton and Bobrov the optics are lousy too.
If this is just about adding an AHL scorer, then a smarter option would have been to just give Belzile what he was asking for -- two year deal with NHL min money. Belzile is a local guy who has been grinding for 15 years to make a living playing the game he love. And when the kids in Laval come to work each day, they would be reminded of his story and fortitude.

Last season with the Kings farm team he scored 31 so he must be AHL bound because his NHL numbers are awful.
But I agree, when your farm team is local why not go with the local guy. Sticking with Belzile should have been an easy decision. Why complicate things.

31 goals in 67 AHL games is not bad. Sounds like Mr. Andersson may have had some mental health issues early in his career. If those are sorted out, he's likely a solid player. A confusing name, that LA farm team. I assume it refer to a county in California and not the province of Ontario. Anyway, last season the Ontario Reign was a .500 hockey team (not good in other words). They were involved in a play-in and lost in 2 games. Andersson got 2 goals and an assist in those 2 games. He matched Nate Thompson, as the top scorers in the playoffs for the Reign, chuckle.
Anyway, as a signing by Laval, it's a decent gamble. He's listed as a centre, but probably isn't. Good size at 6'1", 185 lbs. Worth a shot.

I like this signing. Laval lost “veteran” forward scoring in Belzile (although he was with the Habs a ton last year and was not sent back down at the deadline) and Richard. Andersson rekindled his offense last year in the AHL with Ontario (California), and should provide some leadership and offense to a very young group of Laval forwards: Farrell, Heineman, Roy, Kidney, Davidson, Mešár, etc. Veteran Maillet who was signed earlier had some very good production in his two year stint in the KHL. At 30, he is not likely getting a sniff with the big club unless this is year three of an injury plague like no other. Andersson on the other hand is still just 24 and could warrant an injury call up if he plays well in Laval. The talent and skill is there, it is whether the skating has improved. We shall see.
Oh, and about his WJC silver medal “incident”, he was miffed in the heat of the moment and chucked the “loser medal” (you get one for losing your last game) into the stands. He later apologized, the dude returned the medal to him, and a 19 year old moment went down in history. I laughed when I saw it, and actually admired his anger at losing out on gold. The dude has collected silver at both the U18s and WJC, and gold at the World Championships. He has had some decent success in the past. Get Adam Nicholas on his skating case and let’s see what happens. No risk, at least some possible decent reward.

I understand the mindset ... in the military, what we tried to instill in young soldiers, from day one, was that, when it comes to combat, second place is for literally for losers ... in the NHL the goal is to win the war that is called the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and we've seen a lot of tears from plenty of players, a lot older than Lias Andersson, who also found out what means to come in second ... I'm not condoning what the kid did, but this is what kids do ... besides, it seems he's learned something from it ... welcome to Laval, kid ... Cheers.

Let's not forget that he was a top 7 pick and has been given 6 NHL chances with two organizations. Failed.
Of course it would be great if he turned it around but i doubt it. The only tiny excuse is that at 24, he's fully developed physically, but, if he's not mentally ready for NHL combat by now, he will never be.
Anywho...I'm sure Hughes doesn't see him as a reclamation project, more of an AHL filler with a very long shot at making it in the NHL. Besides, there is an army of prospects waiting to eat him alive to get at the NHL.
