A pleasant surprise from 2022-23 has re-signed for two years/$1.1 AAV. I am happy for the kid. He can bet on himself and see what happens. And I think this was the right move for the club too. Sure, if he continues to be late bloomer and blossoms into a Marchessault, then it would have been savvy to sign him for five years right now. But no one knows with such a small sample size and if he turns into a pumpkin, this bridge deal is so modest that his entire AAV could be buried in Laval.

I'm an addict...and I approve this deal.
Good signing for what he is.

I wish he'd gotten 4x1.2... He may not have wanted a long contract. I wouldn't in his case if I felt I was good enough to play in the NHL. There are enough slugs worse than him earning more.

Good deal for both sides. He gets a modest raise, some money certainty and some term. Habs get a contract they can bury in year one if the initial lineup is too full as he would still be waiver exempt this season. His year by year money breakdown is $1.2 in year one and $1.0 in year two. So his QO in two summers would be $1million with one year left before UFA (a much bigger decision point for Hughes).

Good signing...I would have paid a little more for more term if he was willing.
