The contract has a European assignment clause in the first two years (before he turns 20), so the Habs can send him to Europe (or the AHL) and his contract will slide if he does not play the 10+ NHL games in those seasons. Keeps some flexibility that would not exist if he had signed at a later date past early July (the Euro ELC signing deadline).
I hope they don’t rush him and let him develop further playing top four minutes in Kloten next season against men. He can come to camp and get some preseason games in, but let him develop as he is only 18 and defenders take a bit more time.

Exactly. Another year in the Swiss National League will help him grow physically and we should see improvement if only for that. It was two years before Seider found his way onto the Wings. His D+1 year was spent in the AHL and D+2 year in Sweden (Covid got in the way). The main point is that Yzerman let him play 2 years in leagues below the NHL before it was felt he was ready. He was put in a position to succeed. We'll probably see the same thing with Orville. Habs have Hutson, and one of Engstrom, Struble, etc. ready to join next year, so space will be at a premium. Guhle, Matheson, Xhekaj, Harris can be penned in. That leaves 2 spots open.
Yeah, I haven't included Mailloux. My flawed opinion thinks his reads are still going to create challenges for him.
