With the players having finally paid down their share of the Covid-related financial losses the cap will be rising robustly in the summer so there is no looming cap crunch in Montreal. Hockey is debatable, but I would predict that Hughes will not be retaining big money for multiple seasons or forking over high draft picks to get out of the Gallagher or Anderson contracts.

Yes, as the rebuild gathers momentum a roster spot or two needs to open each summer to help accommodate NHL-ready prospects. But how that happens is the key detail. It is more likely management buys out Armia and/or trades Dvorak in the summer than pulling the trigger on a disadvantageous move related to Gallagher or Anderson.

Josh Anderson has played 469 career games, and has a career total of 672.5 minutes of power play ice time. (That's the equivalent of about one half of his yearly total ice time). In these 469 games, he has the grand total of 11 power play goals and 20 power play points. It basically takes him 34 minutes of PP time to get a point. He has never been good on the power play. Why doesn't anyone on MTL grasp this??
