No one wants to hear it, but since Slaf has been on the first line, the first line has been our least productive line, but our best on expected goals This is not a knock on Slaf, but the absurdity of some of these stats I've said in before but the cynic in me sometime thinks advanced stats exist to make unproductive players look better. There is a lot at play, but yes, I think at the end of the day that is exactly what some of these stats accomplish Part of it is that someone wanted to make baseball type stats for hockey in an attempt to Money Ball hockey. The other part is that someone eventually started to use these stats to show if a player is lucky or unlucky. That's where I draw the line on these analytics. How many times have you heard "They are getting their chances, eventually they'll go in, and they'll go on a tear" ... where is the proof of that? We've seen apparently outstanding analytics from this line for weeks, but very few goals. So some point to it as being unlucky. Where is a player has lots of goals but poor analytics, he is seen as lucky ... as my signature says "Puck luck is the construct of the untalented" Now Montreal has created their own analytic stat - Offensive Chances Generated. Again games aren't won by chances. Suzuki is 7th in the league in this stat, just behind 26 goal Auston Matthews. 👀 These stats are also based on subjectivity as well. Quality of shot is one metric in expected goals. Quality by whose standard? A fanned shot that goes in the net is low on expected goals even though it went in, whereas a laser shot that was saved or hit the post scores high on expected goals ... 🤷♂️

Really bad shift for Struble
First broke his stick next to the bench and doesn't go to get another Then chases a player behind the net that was already covered , leaving Rossi wide open alone in front. Luckily he missed the net

Monty learned there that you cover everything you can when short handed .... trying to not get a whistle nearly cost them
Montreal will be short handed for the first 33 seconds of OT

Montreal is brutal 4 on 4
They need a whistle to play 3 on 3

MIN scores with 5 secs left in OT
Suzuki tried to catch everyone deep, which then led to two players covering one guy

Nice response by the Habs after an atrocious first period. And speaking of atrocious, the guys in stripes were awful.
Caufield called for this with 1:30 left:
Matheson gets 2 for interference:
But this isn’t interference?

Boys played well except for 1st. But would have been better losoing in SO than with 4 seconds in OT. But my rule of thumb is that when there are 10 seconds to go in OT and the puck is in yuor end, you take a penalty any chance you get!!!
Slafs with a strong game, again! Cole still fumbling the puck.
Refs were terrible.

Is this a joke? Is anyone teaching them how to kill a penalty? This is worse then beer league. Actually, more like peewee hockey. Instead of blaming the players, focus on whose teaching them...

More peewee hockey... Please let me know what our player on the far right is defending? Does he have a clue who he has to cover or is he simply going brain dead stupid and sticking to positional play? I'm starting to break down our plays and it's looking really bad. Peewee level bad. Attachments:

I only saw the highlights but how did Guhle get a penalty for the hit on kaprizov? He didn’t. He got a penalty for the fight with Rossi after the hit. Rossi also got 2 for instigating and a 10 min misconduct

I did not notice him at all. But, to be fair to him, he barely played. I would say he basically got two shifts per period with Ylonen and Stephens. I still have time for St. Louis, but some of his decisions are odd. For instance, everyone knows Minnesota is a heavy team that likes to bully opponents who let that happen. So why is Pezzetta in the press box? He should have been on the fourth line. And either Heineman or Ylonen should have been on the third line.

Sometimes I get the feeling that St. Louis feels like he is above that stuff. But the reality of the NHL is that intimidation exists and you have to have an answer or the team suffers.

The only thing I can think of us Marty wants to see who steps up... We have big guys who do not engage...
