Habs invite 24 players, including 20 draftees, 2 on AHL contracts, 1 obtained by trade and a tryout. The camp runs between July 10th and 15th next week in Lasalle. www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect.cfm?sectionID=habsNewsDetails.cfm&newsItemID=6015All 9 draft picks from 2007 and all 6 from 2006 will be there, which is a great turnout considering all the NCAA guys have to pay their own way and Torp came all the way over from Sweden. Kosty Junior and Price not attending, but I would expect they would be at the rookie camp in the fall. More Dmen than forwards!!

Andrew Loverock looks to be an interesting tryout candidate. Might be a good plan to sign him, I don't think they got much to get excited about in the draft. Pacioretty and Weber seem like the best of the bunch and both look more like steady players than potential stars. I think there is as good a chance that they could get their best prospect later in the draft, or via free agency.

I don't get the feeling that McDonagh will be anything special. I think that he and Fischer will be marginal NHL players. Fischer is very smart, but doesn't have great natural talent. McDonagh has better talent, but isn't especially smart.
We'll see how things turn out down the road, but the only two picks I was excited about were Pacioretty and Weber. Although I think that Torp was good value in the sixth round. I don't think this draft compares to the last two, which were excellant.

I know from the other boards you seem to base a lot of your opinions off stats, is that the case here? Does it have to do with them playing in the USHS and not the USNDP. I was more excited for the '05 and '06 drafts, as going into this years draft I didn't like it that much but we'll see how it turns out. Looks to me like we got some interesting players and projects that we will have years to see how they progress since most of them are NCAAers. Fischer is smart but to me what really sticks out is his puck moving and skating. With Minnesota losing Johnson and Goliski to the Pens, he will play a much bigger role next year. Getting guys like Price, Lats, White, Maxwell, D'Agostini, S.Kostitsyn, Fischer, Valentenko, Paquet, Carle, wow is that some wicked drafting. I can't wait to see how these guys turn out. Add one or two guys from '07 and right there you likely going to be in good shape since Lats is looking good and Price could be an elite talent, then you start adding in guys like White, Kostitsyn, Valentenko, etc... and this team should have a lot of interesting young players in the system.

I agree with montreal. Teams were trying to move up to get their hands on McDonagh. He seems to be a stud on D, and of course, since he's still quite young, he has a lot of work ahead of him. Defensemen usually aren't rushed into the NHL...unless you have some crazy talented one like Phaneuf, who looks like he's already been professional for the last decade.
