Colin White claimedWhite claimed, Gignac waived. Improves Laval and brings a more experienced guy in to play the 4th line center role.

Hughes finally gets his man . There were rumours galore (about a year ago?) with White going from Ottawa to Montreal. I didn't think much of them, but clearly Hughes had interest in him, perhaps from his Boston College days. White put up 41 points in 71 games in 2018/19 but seemed to regress and Ottawa let him go. Florida signed him iin 2022, didn't do much, even in the long playoff run. Pens signed him in 2023 and now waived him. That's 3 teams saying "Good luck, guy", to Colin White. I know very little about him, but Habs must want to try him on the 4th line. He just turned 27, so not a spring chicken. If this is his prime, though..... ?

I have completely forgotten about him, which suggests he is very forgettable. I'm not factoring him at all in any future plans. I doubt he has much value beyond a 3/4 round pick.

Only time I think of Dvo is when I see KK mentioned somewhere, rarely on the scoresheet, and what a bust 3OA he was. CPB: Could've Picked Brady!

The Eyes On The Prize website says that Hughes used to be his agent. www.habseyesontheprize.com/montreal-canadiens-claim-colin-white-off-waivers-place-brandon-gignac-on-waivers/So, with White playing for Pittsburgh I guess the only travelling he's doing today is walking over to the vistor's dressing room.

He was good once. We shall see if he can rekindle anything. Anyway, cheap move and allows Laval to get a forward back for their push (good for Roy getting the edge to stick around instead of Gignac). A warm body heading into the trade deadline when who knows if the roster takes any more hits and warm bodies are needed even more.

White (a former 21st OA in 2015) has had an underwhelming NHL career (113 points and he is 27 years old). I never thought he was a serious talent. He got lucky when Dorion gave him a nice contract after one solid season and then he got 'unlucky' when Dorion bought him out at the 1/3 payout rate. Basically if Florida did not want to bring him back at the league min, that speaks volumes about where his career is at.
Is claiming White simply the case of the GM who has seen his center depth devastated by injury just picking up a guy to help plug the holes or is it a GM going out of his way to help out a former client? I will give Hughes the benefit of the doubt and say it is the former. If White is on Montreal's opening night roster in October then I may become inclined to see it as the latter.

Brady hasn't won anything, the sens are a mess and he's the captain...

I wonder if Hughes was his agent went he got that deal from Ottawa after that 41 point season? Anyways, Ottawa really blew that. They drafted White at 21 with Boeser (23) and Konecny (24) available.

Does any team go to the bargain bin as often as this once proud franchise Byron, Montembeault. Sometimes it works out and if it doesn't you haven't lost anything. Having said that, as the overall talent level improves, it won't be worth the bother to go to the bargain bin. We'll have plenty of candidates ourselves. Much of this bottom feeding is due to the low quality of players already on the roster, requiring 4th liners to play up the line.
