I do not personally know any Sens fans, but this probably feels like a tough reality check for them. The reality is wingers who can provide scoring depth do not fetch much at the trade deadline. Centers and d-men have more value.
Florida did not pay much and this helps them in the sense that a marginally talented guy like Cousins gets pushed a little further down the lineup.

Just think, only 6 years ago, a scoring winger got you a replacement winger, a second round pick and a former 13th OA pick who would become captain of his team and someone to build around.

Yeah, for sure, good call man.
No one can dispute that Montreal received a fantastic return for Pacioretty. But Max was 2-3 years younger than Tarasenko and McPhee saw him as a medium-term solution in Vegas because he signed the player to a rich three or four year extension there on the day of the trade. And I believe Pacioretty hit the 30+ goal mark in four of the five seasons before the trade, whereas in the last five seasons since the Blues won the Cup the Russian has only reached the 30 goal plateau once.
I think if one goes by the age, goals, etc. Guentzel, now the coveted winger on the market, probably more closely approximates the value of Pacioretty in the summer of 2018. It will be interesting to see what Dubas can get for Guentzel.

Guentzel is also a proven winner that delivers in the playoffs at the rate of a point per game. He's also comfortable playing with stars like Crosby.
Jeff Marek was on CBC this morning & his opinion was that he lands in Carolina. That surprised me because they have not been mentioned as a possible destination.

The key thing here is Tarasenko had a full NTC - he could dictate his destination, and Ottawa had very little leverage, so all they could do was take Florida's best offer, or just keep him. They could have bluffed, but they chose to accept a 3d and a 4th rather than risk getting nothing.
