The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired defenceman Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Daniil Miromanov, a first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
Ok, I am starting to hate Vegas. Seems like they can go and get whoever they want and always bypass the cap.

I'm not sure why people feel like Vegas got away with something. TSN actually came out and said that this morning. This loophole has existed for years. TB used it and I'm pretty sure Chicago used it in at least one of their Cup years.
I have not seen or heard of any efforts by the league to close the loophole so Bettman must be OK with it. If the Habs were contenders & Hughes used this method to land Guentzel, I would not be complaining.

If the habs did it and won a cup, the league would change the rules the following year... the NHL wants Vegas to win... it's all about betting now

I'm beginning to have question marks around Craig Conroy of the Flames. I get no warm and fuzzies from the return on Hanifin. It's good the 1st rounder is for next year, but if that's the main asset you got back? Again, not a scout, have no connections with any organization and my best, trusted reference is NWT, but Miromanov looks like the typical contract spot throw-in. Twenty six years old, moved around a ton, undrafted (not that important) so he checks in as a definite contract replacement.
Except he has really good size at 6'4" 207 lbs, and had 6 points in 5 games in the AHL this season and 22 in 31 games the previous season. Must get injured frequently or severely because he rarely plays anything near a full season.
This guy better turn into a hell of a player because one first round pick (probably in the 20ish range but who knows?) in return for a guy like Hanifin, isn't much to get excited about. No one was offering more? I can see the Leafs and Boston just not having the assets. It's not like Vegas is swimming with prospects either. They got nada. Sue glad Hughes and Gorton avoid these situations. You always want to be able to say "Nah, we'll just keep them". Which will often prompt, "Wait!, wait, don't hang up!"

Hanafin probably jammed Calgary up by making it known (through sources) that he was not interested in negotiating an extension with just any team. So that made Conroy's job harder. But the return seems kind of underwhelming for a d-man in his prime, having a great season, and perceived by almost everyone to be a genuine difference maker.
I have a feeling Pittsburgh's return for Guentzel is going to look similarly underwhelming in comparison to what nearly everyone believes the player is worth to a contender.

And now Vegas grabs Hertl from San Jose. They see someone they want and somehow make it happen.

And now Vegas grabs Hertl from San Jose. They see someone they want and somehow make it happen. I wonder what their CAP hit is if all the guys on LTIR miraculously recover when the playoffs start? So simple to fix and then all the hooplah over Vegas ends up snake-eyes. This is certain owners of the league cheating as usual. You can bet that's how they got to where they are.
