Heard rumours last summer that there was a possibility that Crosby could be moved before the end of his contract. I didn't think much about it until lately when I heard it again at the trade deadline. Again, most insiders just laughed it off. However, it is being passed around that he is not happy, and does not want to be part of a rebuild. So of course they are starting to say that he could be traded as soon as this years draft, or by next years trade deadline. So, if he is gonna be traded, he has all the control of where he wants to go....one of the teams mentioned was of course the Habs. Childhood team, dad was drafted by them etc.....So, what's the possibilities that he actually gets traded, and what would it cost for a team like Montreal to get him?
He's be great to play with the kids...show them what it takes to win a cup, his production is still pretty good, he's still a point per game guy.

For sentimental reasons it is tempting to say yes, make it happen. But if he doesn't want any part of a rebuild in Pttsburgh then he won't want to be part of one anywhere else.
The other question is what would it take to get him. How much do you have to give up and how do you fit that 8.7 million into your cap? Crosby looked pretty unhappy over the weekend but I guess losing 3 in a row by a combined score of 15-1 will do that. But, like the rest of us, he is probably underwhelmed by the return for Guentzel.
He strikes me as guy who wants to win but also values the comeraderie of the team. He wants to win but he also wants to win with this group. Maybe after the events of the last week or so his mind is changing.

It ALL depends on the acquisition cost.
In the open market Pens will want Dach, Ghule and a 1st.
FORGET IT...ABSOLUTELY FORGET IT
IF...IF Crosby tells them where he wants to go and it cost a 1st, then fine.
The money doesn't bother me, the acquisition cost does to the point of yes to absolutely not.

Can't see it happening with Montreal. There is only two places I can see it who are in it to win it: 1) Colorado, to go play with his buddy MacKinnon or 2) Boston, to play with Marchand.
As for coming to Montreal, I would only do a first and B+ prospect and Harris

I'll pass thanks. I wouldn't give any assets for him during this rebuild. I might consider it if he ever comes up as ufa with something left in the tank.
With our luck we'd trade a pick used on a ppg 20 or old to get a 37 year old with 1 year of ppg abolity

Crosby was great last season and even better this season. I tend to believe he is fiercely loyal and proud of being the long-serving captain of the Penguins. But just for the sake of it let's assume he cannot stomach a rebuild, Crosby would cost a fortune in assets this summer if he were to ask out. Yes, of course, he could quietly play hardball and tell Dubas listen move me to Team A or Team B now or at the 2025 deadline because otherwise else I pick my spot next summer.
Montreal needs to make a lot more progress to position itself for a legend like Crosby to reason hey I am not okay missing the playoffs in Pittsburgh but I am okay moving to Montreal when they have three straight bottom ten finishes since the 2021 run. If the Habs jump another 10-15 points in the standings in 2024-25, watch some of the young guys on the roster improve even more, and graduate some talented studs by the spring of 2025 to the big club, then maybe a UFA Crosby might want in on July 1, 2025.
But honestly this is crazy long-odds type scenario stuff. And for me it can only remotely (5 percent eh) have a chance of transpiring in the event that Crosby reaches the UFA market and by next summer Montreal looks well positioned to crash the playoff party in 2025-26.

Agree with just about everything said here. On the drive home they increased his chance to leaving to 50/50, apparently he doesn't like the new ownership group. So if he leaves, he'll be able to pick and choose where he wants to go. They mentioned Colorado and Montreal. No mention of Boston, but I can see that as a possibility. One of the Toronto homers mentioned the Leaf's, but everyone laughed it off. "IF" I was interested in getting him, I would think the ask would be high....maybe two firsts and a prospect (Harris) and a roster player like Anderson. The money the team would make just on Sweater sales would make it worth it.

He probably has an NMC so he is in total control.
The team is still à work in progress so giving away 1st is not to our best interest nor Crosby's.
Anything past one 1st is concerning. He's got 3 good years? Other then entertainment value I doubt we are good enough to take out the Avs or Boston.
I rather we use those first to get 10-15 year center solutions then 3 years of hoopla.
Now if this was a 30 year old Crosby...

Would not want him unless it's as a UFA at like $3MM a year. Otherwise, he's just a wrench in the plan works.
