Based on play, Mailloux deserved the call up. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with him. Not an issue, Skilly. After Dach was out for the year and possibly even before that, the plan was that this is a development year and a year for weaning out people you don't want. It has little to do with meritocracy. They would have sent Roy back down to Laval, not because he doesn't deserve to be with the big team, but because he has proven he belongs. Does Barron belong? From my viewing tonight he hasn't improved at all. What I pointed out earlier about Reinbacher, having a play ready in his mind because he's processing the game quickly, is not a facet of Barron's game. He doesn't think fast enough and this game is confirming it. Mailloux is a key part of Laval's team, so he'll get his test at training camp. Or maybe management has already made up their minds on him, like Joshua Roy.

With Reeves in the box, you'd think they'd take a run at Matthews
At least Josh Anderson is hitting

4 zip, isn't this fun
We talk about our so called glut of dmen. Struble, Barron sure don't look like nhlers. Not convinced on Harris. Hutson is probably too small

Slaf with a back hand feed to Suzuki who scored ... who I have no idea how he did
Wow!

Anderson throwing his weight around. Nice to see.
Monty not having his best game. He misplayed the Matthews goal, srarting to move to the far past anticipating a pass. Seriously? Matthews pass? Yo always play the shot because that’s what Matthews does, and besides, whose shot is more dangerous?

Matthews had his back to Monty and Monty looked the other way, not expecting Matthews to spin and throw the puck in front. Leafs definitely working harder than the Habs, which is to be expected. I think they'll lose in the first round again. Samsonov will blow up and that defense just isn't good enough.

Matheson had Matthews, Savard had the Leaf in front of the net. Matthews spun to throw the puck in front, it went off Savard covering the other Leaf. Matthews' "shot" was going wide

Matthews was passing this puck or intentionally trying to bank it off Savard

Well Pezz just got his ass handed to him by Reaves. I suspect he knew that before going in ... the look on Michael Pezzetta's face was like, 'someone has to do it, I guess'... then there was the trolling afterward ... the look on Austin Matthew's face was like a schoolyard kid imitating an ape ... that said, my hat goes off to Pezz for what he did ... he knew beforehand he was going to get lambasted but the team needed a boost just the same ... Cheers.

Cheers. That's the way I feel Dis. He knew he was going to lose but did it anyway. And at least Pezzetta anwsered the bell, unlike McMann who nailed Armia. But in that case perhaps there was no bell to answer based on the behaviour of Habs players lately. They have lost to the Leafs before but this one really stings. I didnt know why at first but your post brought it home. Watching a game guy take a beating for his team and then have to listen to dumb comments afterwards was too much. I think Matthews actually said Reaves was "world class" at what he does. Really? And what is it that he is so good at? Lumbering around the ice for 5 minutes a game, punching people and being on the ice for goals against? I can't wait for the inevitable playoff meltdown. it will be extra sweet & I don't care who beats them. It will be a small price to pay to have them out.

I was always told that it was classless for a heavyweight to pick a fight with a middleweight. But in Leafsland, class is not something they have much familiarity with. 67 years and counting

Cheers. This is another example of why I dislike Matthews and would never have him on my team even if he scored 100 goals a season. He has never grown up. He doesn't accept that it's a meaningless win in a fight when one guy is Goliath and the other guy is David without a slingshot. Do we have his reaction when Xhekaj embarrassed Reaves early in the season? Matthews is a loser and there's no plainer way to put it. His record proves it. He can win individual awards till doomsday as his Leafs won't win anything with him there.
