Had to laugh with TSN articles going on about how Reaves has to start in the playoffs as he will be a difference maker. The guy has 5 points in 44 games and is a -13. He may be a difference maker but it would be to help the opposition.

That raises the fact you've got a guy playing 7-8 minutes who is basically wasting those minutes, as much as Colin White or Josh Anderson do for the Habs. Is that worth it?

The guy is a liability as your stats indicate & he takes the place of someone that might actually be useful. If Sam Bennett nails Matthew Knies the way he did last year is Reaves coming off the bench to challenge him? No, he will just get suckered into an instigator call & put his team down a man. Who writes this trash?

Who writes this trash? Leaf fans write this trash... It's as if they're in denial that signing Reaves was a dumb idea. i know at then time they beieved after Reaves the Cup was soon to follow. Recognizing that he had a predictable bust of a season, they now want to double down on the playoffs being a different outcome. Since when does a fighter have an impact in the playoffs when fighting basically stops. Sure toughness is important but it's useless if you can't keep up with the play and your team is constantly scored on when you're on the ice or in the box. You keep going Leafs - another 67 years without. Cup

The other really dumb part of signing Reaves is that he's 37 years old. The last thing you want is an old enforcer. They've been through so many wars that there is no incentive to start any more. The best enforcers are always younger, and perhaps not wise enough yet to know better. It's a reason I'm ok with Arber fighting just occasionally. Enough to maintain the reputation, but you don't want him having CTE after his career is over.

X and guhle seem to get injured a lot. I guess it's good for the tank but somewhat concerning going forward. Leafs must be licking their chops.
Anyone see what may have caused X's upper body injury in the TB game? Being jumped from behind? Had to laugh at that one: big debate as to whether a team should respond when a mate suffers a clean hit and now TB jumps the opponent when a player gets hit by his own teammate. You can't make this up.

Much as I hate to go through it, we need a losing streak. Arizona is only 1 point behind us, but more importantly, we are far too close to Ottawa (tied), Calgary (3 pts behind them), Devils (6 pts behind). Too close for comfort, especially Ottawa and NJ. I do not want 8th pick. That raises the risk of missing on all the top forwards. Celeb, Demigod, Lindstrom, all probably gone. Leaving Iginla, Eiserman and Catton. If Iginla and Eiserman are taken, that's all the top guys with any size, gone. A losing streak with us finishing 5th sounds good to me. I don't doubt that if we were in a playoff race, both Guhle and Xhekaj would be dressed. Good move on management's part. Guhle's absence really affects the dynamics on our D.
Marty, please play Matheson to the limit.

Interesting that Barron got called up. Says something about priorities (to me). Arpon Basu was talking to a scout recently about David Reinbacher. He said the scout's eyes lit up and he went, 'bing, bang, bang'. Upon elaborating, the scout was referring to Reinbacher's decision making. That he had his next pass, move, etc. all lined up before getting the puck. It wasn't as evident in the Swiss League because, frankly, the players aren't often where they should be, so he had to hold onto the puck longer than he wanted to. When asked if Reinbacher could play in the NHL next year, the scout answered that he could play right now. The reasoning is that the higher you go, the better players are at their positioning, etc and it's easier for a guy like Reinbacher to make plays. It's another example of the fact some guys impress more at a higher level than they do in the minors. From my soccer playing days, I can see why. Dumb, inexperienced guys are difficult to predict, so when they should be in Point A, they've usually gone to Point B and it totally screws up your own game. Struble is a good example. He was nondescript in Laval, but pretty good in Montreal.
Anyway, back to the Barron call-up, after my reasoning above, one wonders why they didn't bring up Reinbacher. Simple...they know he's good enough. It's not a question. Laval needs their best players in order to make the playoffs. Barron, (who didn't impress the scouts Basu talked to) is not going to hurt the Rocket by being out of the line-up. It will even give Reinbacher more ice time, hopefully. Naturally, Barron won't help the Habs, (or maybe he'll pick his game up), so one way or the other, it's a benefit to him and to the Canadiens. Win-win.
In Hughes' shoes, I'd be certain to communicate that to Reinbacher, in less Barron slagging language.
It was interesting to hear about the scout's glowing opinion of Reinbacher. I keep comparing his style to Lidstrom's. Good gap control and stick work, excellent transition play, with quick decisions and tape to tape passes. That's not an exciting style of play but it's extremely effective. I see a less robust version of Shea Weber, with better skating ability. I think he's going to surprise a lot of critics.

They may be bringing up Barron for one last look in the NHL before the summer. If he can't show he can play in the NHL now, then he is likely gone this summer. i don't see any need to rush Reinbacher. I suspect the last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind for the guy (new team, new country, new ice surface, crazy fan base). Throwing him in on a Saturday night against TO might be pushing it.

It's simply an unnecessary risk. My guess is that in HuGo's eyes, he's on the team next year unless he plays himself off in the pre-season. With that decision made, the rest is not rocket science. A lot of Basu and Godin's Notebook discussion was taken up with the excess of Dmen arriving next camp and how do you deal with it. Unfortunately, not once did they bring up a Matheson trade, which for me, solves some issues. It's still a huge competition. Guhle, Xhekaj, Struble, Harris, Engstrom and Hutson all LHD. Savard, Reinbacher, Mailloux and Barron all RHD. One might also assume, Struble, Harris, or Engstrom can all play on the right. It's still too many. Hughes has some shopping to do this June. A target like Zegras or some other top 6 centre/forward is a necessity, with us lightening up on the D prospects and Matheson.

Excellent defensive play by Slaf. On our left boards, Leaf gets to the puck ahead of slaf , who just pushes him off the puck and clears it. Not many can do that.

On the flip side Barron gets the puck with time, fumbles it and turns it over. Sigh.

I see Leaf fans are saying X was pulled to avoid his reckoning with Reaves I'm wondering if they scratched him with a mystery injury because he didn't jump to Slaf's defense last game. Poor Xhekaj has to be confused. Marty doesn't want him to fight, the code kinda dictates he should, his teammates are starting to talk about protecting themselves ... 🤷♂️🤷♂️
