It's sad. I understand the economics of it all and even why Montréal would be against it bit having Canada ruled out is just not fair. Also with climate and taxes, it is going to be even harder to get people to play in Canada going forward.

I dont buy the American reluctance to sign in Canada entirely. If you pay enough & have a positive environment players will consider it. Matthews is an extreme example but by the time his next deal expires hd will have been in Toronto 12 years.
Tkachuk signed long term in Ottawa as did Caufield in Montreal. I'm sure there are others that I can't recall right now.
As for climate well winters can be harsh in the northeast as well as the midwest states. I'd say that winter in Minneapolis is harsher than even Toronto. I dont think climate is on the top of most guys' lists.
Sure there are guys that want to cash a cheque and remain anonymous but I believe that most guys want to win & to be treated fairly. Do that & they will come.
