McDonagh and Edmonton's fourth rounder move to Tampa and Nashville receives a 2025 second and a 7th rounder this summer.
I don't know, strange trade on some levels. I get it that Tampa was not thrilled with the holes and cracks in their d-corps, but for a club with basically zero cap space/flexibility, how is addressing those holes/cracks best served by getting a guy with a $6.75 AAV for his age 35 and 36 seasons?
And for a team trying to build on a good season like the one Nashville just had, how does removing a really good steady d-man from the equation help them in 2024-25? Is Trotz playing the long-game here and planning to acquire a younger LHD d-man? Hmm, could Hughes be involved in talks with Trotz?

Tampa has over 81M in cap used, and no stamkos contract... Could Tampa be moving on from Stamkos... Stamkos has made 116M over his career so I don't think he needs a fat payday... maybe he signs a cheap contract with tampa or the habs send a left hand D for negotiating rights because Tampa can't afford to resign Dumba 🤔
Edit: have I said how much I love the start of the downfall of doocherov and the bolts

Eventually the CAP devil plays the fiddle in every franchise town. Tampa's fall will be slow, but inevitable. They're looking to extend Hedman (because #1 dmen are hard to replace when you're drafting in the 20's). They have decent players signed long term including Cirelli, Point and Hagel. On D, Sergachev and Cernak are locked in for 6 more years, just like the forwards mentioned. Add in Hedman and you have a solid base. Vasilevsky is around for the next 4 years. There's no first or second round picks this draft or next. What that means, given the solid base, is that they'll still be drafting middle of the pack, right in that purgatory range. They'll either just miss the playoffs or just make them and get eliminated in 4-6 games. Brisebois has to decide if he's going full nuclear or stay in the comfortable, never winning middle zone. Enjoy the ride, Nikita.

I was listening to the panel during the pre-game show. One of the panellists noted just how much the Tampa Bay Lightning missed Ryan McDonagh ... I don't like crying over spilled milk, but the Habs really missed him, too ... imagine drafting McDonagh, Max Pacioretty, Yannick Weber, and PK Subban, all in the same draft ... it happened in 2007 ... Weber had his time in Montreal ... still, he had a good run in Nashville ... Patches and PK became part of the new core of players moving forward, while McDonagh eventually went on to captain the Rangers ... ah, well, ... Cheers.

A few cool facts about Weber: he is still playing in the Swiss NL for the league champions Zurich Lions, as a teammate of prospect Vinzenz Rohrer and ex-Hab Sven Andgrighetto AND he is married to Carey Price’s sister.

Cool info NWT... I guess when the Price's and the Weber's go out for dinner Carey pays?

Jeje, that is funny. I looked Yannick Weber on CapFriendly and it reports that his career earnings were $8 million (I have no idea how much he grossed in Europe over the years). But Price is obviously in a different stratosphere with $105 million thus far and another $15 million to bank before his contract expires.
