Sawyer seems to be a reach of a pick. Probably a round too early.

Still no 2nd Russian drafted but after seeing interviews of Demidov I get the impression he will have a smooth transition regardless of whether or not he has a fellow countryman to join him.

Tampa trades Jeannot to the Kings for a second in 2025 and 118 in 2024 Tampa making space for Stamkos? Friedman says they are in on Guentzel. Why dont they just re sign Stamkos?

I hate the advantage the cap system gives no tax teams. Also moving a still young puck moving dman for a scoring winger reminds me if something. What was that?

Demidov on becoming a member of the Canadiens:
Today I met with Martin St-Louis, and it’s unbelievable... people like St-Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, I was playing NHL 07 with those guys, and now I’m shaking their hands. It’s cool.
Demidov on if he’s ready to be a game-breaking talent for Montreal:
I think so, yeah. My sports idol is Kobe Bryant and this season I tried to take his [...] killer instinct, and I think I won a lot of games and scored a lot of game-winning goals. I think I can be a game-breaker for Montreal.

I'm not loving how the Habs didn't pick anyone from the Q, even though several were picked close to their picks, like the goalie picked between their 2 5th rounders.

The Q had a really bad draft year. I think the first player picked was late second round. Really not much out there that made you go hmmm.

I'm talking about 5th rounders, unlikely to make it regardless of origin... but it picking that Q goalie at 130 or the Brunet kid at 134 shows a commitment to trying to pick local kids.

I think it all comes down to contracts. We o ly had so many available this year so by picking euros they can stash them a few years and let them marinate until ready.

To add on to my last, the Canadiens are at 42 contracts out of 50, tied with St Louis for most in the league. The average seems to be at 35, and there are a lot of teams below that.

Hopefully the scouts know of an undrafted local kid who they plan to sign.

Fearless predictions: If Aatos Koivu is still on the table at #70, Montreal picks him. At least one of the 5th or 7th picks will be traded for a similar pick in 2025 or 2026.

Not every team has the plethora of good prospects that we do, who are signed to entry level contracts, probably. At least that's my completely biased, Pollyanna opinion.

The two teams who have graduated from "I don't care what they do" to "Those A$$holes!" are Philly and Chicago. The Flyers for taking Michkov and pretending they are so smart for doing so and Chicago for just being themselves. The gall of those two teams trying to scupper our well made plans. Well yesterday those plans didn't go 'gang aft agley', so stick it in your ears, Briere and Davidson. Or somewhere else that doesn't contain brain matter. Well, in your cases it might. We got Demigod!!!!!! And Hage!! and Koivu!

How come every time I see 'Logan Sawyer', my brain switches to 'Lincoln Lawyer'?
I have to make sure I go to the next Penticton/Salmon Arm game here to check out Mr. Sawyer.

The 1st round was like winning the lottery, the balls fell in place for HuGo and I can see Demidov making the team in his 1st year. All of the talking heads say he'll be on the 1st line so who moves to the 2nd line?

I watched a clip of the Hage selection and the jersey he put on had his name on it... at 21 they wouldn't have known if he would be available... so they definitely targeted him

For sure, Demidov is not playing in the AHL. He will be with Montreal from day one.

A day later and i still have a smile.
All kinds of worrisome scenarios played in my head. Started with Lindstrome and his back, picking Iginla or Buium at 5, trading down for another long shot pick and the two above...etc.
If we picked Sennecke, i would still rejoice as much but reality is that he has a lower floor...but an equal ceiling.
Things fell as they should with no "buts"...

Fantilly would be a stretch but i would certainly get religion...

Philly was trying to get it at 4 and gad 12th and so.e other picks. Carolina was rumoured to let Columbus work out a contract for Necas in echange for the 4th. So took some balls not trading and etra pick to move up to 3 or 4.

Necas is only half way there. Moving into top 5 hss to be pure pain otherwise not worth it.

Both said they tried to move up from 21 to ensure they got him, so for the second time that day their guy “fell” into their laps.

I have a bunch of scouting reports on the first nine picks (the Swede is an International man of mystery), so I will post individual player pick threads to share the various write ups on each guy as per tradition in the past. Had a long day driving today, so will try and get done tomorrow.
