26th to 21st Trade with LA 1st (26), 2nd (57th) and 7th (198th) for LA's 1st (21) all this year.
interesting. Who are they targeting? Or is a precursor to something bigger?

According to Dreger Hughes has lots of irons in the fire (no surprise):

I like 21st a lot better than 26th. It gets us ahead of Boston for one thing, but it's also a tiny bit easier to move up further. There's quite a jump up to the 18 level where another tier ends (or thereabouts). Or they might like Sacha Boisvert a lot and thought he'd be gone by 26. Might be gone by 21, but I hope this is simply a higher value pick to add to a Dman (or 2) to move up further.

I like this move. If they keep it, there should be a good player there. If they move it (for a player or as a package to move up), it has more value and leverage.

I concur. Montreal has a deep pool. If management sees a decent chance for quality at #21 compared to #26, then it is worth it to spend a bit of draft capital.

I just realized, this deal likely means no mini Koivu, and I guess I liked the idea of trading up into the 2nd to get him. Starting from far in the 3d round, I don't think such a trade is likely now.

I guess the best chance for that would be moving someone like Harris and a 3d for a 2nd, or flipping next year's PIT 2nd rounder for 2024 pick.

Yup. Was just going to suggest that. Maybe Carolina as they have 3 seconds? Lots od teams with 2.

So Habs take Hage with the pick. Looks like a great prospect. What's interesting is that most mock drafts had Hage selected around 17 and 18. I wonder if Habs had someone else in mind when they traded down, and when they saw Hage was still available they shifted. Or maybe they were looking for Eiserman but he was gone at #20? Hage is a good consolation prize if they were looking for Eiserman.
