So here's a hypothetical.. Dogs don't make the playoffs. Who's getting a call up for team depth?

Who's getting a call up for team depth? chips and valentenko ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) just my guess. at the very least to be around the team, and i could see chips subbing in instead of kosto or smoke or whomever. i'm still surprised that he isn't with the big club now, he looked fine to me during the early part of the season, but it was the little things they wanted him to work on, especially his faceoffs, a shutdown center can't be 40% in the dot.

I agree. There doesn't seem to be a lot of NHL ready prospects on the farm after Valentanko and Chips.Maybe Matt D'Agostini will be considered?

The thing is, if the Hamilton season ends before the Hamilton season I'd be very surprised if they didn't bring up at least Chipchura, Valentenko and possibly D'Ago, too. That way we have serious depth available in case of injury.
Defense subs: Brisebois, Streit, Dandenault, Valentenko
Forward subs: Kosto, Dandenault, Chipchura, D'Ago
D'Ago might get called up because he's the only one of the above who could fill a scoring/offensive role if we needed.

Great point! The one advantage Montreal has going against most teams in the league would be depth at forward.Chances of Matt seeing ice time would be unlikely. D'Ago would probably be there just for the ride but the experience he gets would help his development.

Dogs lose their 7th straight, but most importantly, to the team they are chasing for that final playoff spot - Syracuse Crunch.
9 points back, 13 games to play, 2 games in hand. Since Grabovski and Halak joined the Habs, the wheels have fallen off the farm team and there is no great hope in sight. Wyman is an extra big body, but not a saviour by any stretch or hope. Maxwell and White hope for long WHL playoff runs, so ditto there.
It's up to the boys there to step it up or else face missing the playoffs the season after winning the Cup. Hope they can do it, but it is a huge uphill battle after this tough loss tonight.

Dogs lose another one tonight, this time 3-2 in OT to those darn Baby Leafs. The Dogs had a lead late into the third when Toronto scored with about 90 seconds left on what the announcers described as a bit of a flukely goal (they all count unfortunately). Cedrick Desjardins was really solid in net making 40 saves, getting the second star, and clearly deserving of a much better fate than an OT loss. One point in the standings, but the Dogs are still a long way from a playoff spot. They need a nice string of wins and a little help from other teams, but it is still a huge uphill battle going down the stretch. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1004492

Corey Locke scores and Dogs outshoot the baby Sens 40-28, and that is about all I can muster on the positive side. Final score 7-1 with soon to be UFA Yann Danis getting pelted for 7 goals and the whole team laying another offensive egg not for lack of effort. A .750 save percentage does not get the job done in any league. A franchise record 10 straight in the L column. My, what a difference a year makes. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php?module=newser&func=display&nid=779

Dogs finally snap their franchise record 12 straight losses with a big 5-3 win in Philly this afternoon against the Phantoms. D'Agostini lead the way with 1g 2a and Chipper had 1g 1a although he left late in the third with a bit of an injury. Not sure how serious it is yet. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1004563

A small side note on yesterday's Dogs win. JT Wyman made his pro debut although did not get a lot of ice time. The Minnesota wave begins!

As a disappointing season winds down, the Dogs lose 5-4 in a shootout to the (cough) Lake Erie Munsters, oops, correct that, Monsters. They outshot the Nellie's 2 to 1, but were outgoaltended. Valentenko had one assist and was +2, so he looks like he's healthy again. Time for a call-up bob.

A win Sunday over Grand Rapids. D'Agostini with 2 points and first star. Perhaps the call-up regenerated his batteries. After getting a taste of the show, there's lots of incentive to make it permanent. Another point of note, Desjardins in goal, stopping 30 of 31 shots. I can't help but think that Danis has really fallen down the depth chart. Cedric has been playing fairly well most games with the Dogs. And he's got a few years on Danis. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1004609PS. No points but +1 for Rudolph Valentenko.

Dogs lose to those darn Baby Leafs 3-2 tonight, but Matt D'Ago had a goal and an assist and Pavel "the Tank" Valentenko got his first AHL goal.

Dogs win again in an audition for next year and contracts. 4-1 against Lake Erie Sludge Monsters. Corey Locke has another big game, 2g and 1a. Chipper is all better and back from injury and picked up a goal, as did Matt D'Agostini. ECHL call up Cedrick Desjardins got his fourth straight win as a Dog and is ready to go back after this weekend to help lead the Clones to an ECHL championship. He has one of the spots in Hamilton's net next season IMO, not sure who the other is yet. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php?module=newser&func=display&nid=795

Anyone else think this Dogs season resembles the Leafs a bit? They finally start playing well when it's far too late and it doesn't matter anymore?

Well it's the Bulldogs final game this evening as they play Syracuse Crunch. They miss the playoffs after winning it all last season.
A few positives could be taken from this season but the biggest positive was their undoing. They produced many of the Habs that are having a impact today on the Habs roster. C.Price , S.Kostitsyn, M.Lapierre, M.Grabovski, R.O'Byrne, and J.Halak all had significant rolls on the Hamilton Bulldogs and eventually got called up throughout the season. Nice to see some younger player step up ,but to may important parts were taken from them.

You have to hand it to Corey Locke. He has been pushed aside in the pecking order in the Habs system the past couple of seasons, giving up prime playing time to the likes of Grabovski, Lapierre, and Chipchura, who are deemed to have more upside. But he continues to soldier on, and really stepped up in the past couple weeks with those other players absent. Best season of his pro career, and he is a pillar of the community in Hamilton. He will be playing in the NHL somewhere next season, although it may not be Montreal.

Danis played tonight against Syracuse in the last game of the season and....he gave up 7 goals as they lost 7-1.
Ferland with the only Dogs' goal tonight.

Hamilton Bulldogs owner Michael Andlauer seems a little frustrated over how Montreal has complete control over player movement. Looks like he looking to sign his own veteran players to keep a competative team .He is looking at the Chicago Wovles a model to follow. Hard to blame him after watching his Hamilton roster become depleted to accommodate Montreal's needs. But I don't think Montreal should allow thier prospects to be pushed to the back burner either. I tricky situation. www.thespec.com/Sports/Local%20Sports/article/354574

I tricky situation. www.thespec.com/Sports/Local%20Sports/article/354574I think it can work for both orgs. Montreal has a ton of current Bulldog players on the bubble and likely a number that they have no interest in brining back since their development has stalled. Would the team be worse off having those roster spots taken by more experienced and better vets? The Habs will want to make room for newbies like Trotter, Wyman, White, Weber and Maxwell. They will want second year guys like Carle and Valentenko to get as much ice time as possible. Also, there are a bunch of guys down in Cincinnati that likely want their shot at the AHL as well. To me, signing a free agent goalie vet is pretty important. The signing should start there to give Desjardins a mentor under which to work. Bashing Montreal's treatment of the Habs is a favourite theme of the Hamilton Spectator. A Calder Cup less than 12 months ago with a really young team is still quite an accomplishment.
