Few things scare me more in life then a nuke falling on my head, my wife watching Chucky movies with a glint in her eyes and...TRADING MY FAVORITE PLAYER This has too much air of reality to dismiss it, but glad it went nowhere fast. Basically Mailman and 21st(Hage) for Zegras and a second. I WOULD NOT DO IT...because I trust Zegras signing here long term as much as a rabid dog. Given what we hear about the new generation of extra me-moi players, it's almost a certainty that he values himself as a star and of course to be paid like one. Meanwhile we got a very, very likely top 4 in Mailman and maybe even be a top 2 with 60-80 point potential. The last time we had so much crazy AND offense was Chelios. Remember him? Yeah, he was a violent loonie but he was OUR violent loonie. Then there is Hage, who will be our high talent 3C, maybe our 2C. What do you think? (remember, I keep a black book and a personal friend of Santa Claus) www.habsolumentfan.com/canadiens/exclusif-le-canadien-avait-une-entente-en-place-pour-acquerir-trevor-zegras

I think Anaheim really likes Hage, but I'm not including him in anything at this time. I really liked what I saw of Hage's highlights (all offensive ones). I get really annoyed when watching Vegas and no one seems to be able to take the puck off Eichel. Hage looks a LOT like that. Eichel is bigger at this time, but Hage is only 18 and will very likely look like Eichel in 5 years. I just don't know about Zegras. Too much flash gives me pause. that combo is too much to give up for Zegras. As Cranky says, there's a lot of ceiling in Mailman too.
Just read the article and the deal (assuming Demidov wasn't available and Habs picked a Dman) would be Mailman and the 26th pick for Zegras and a 2nd rounder. When Hughes improved the 26th pick to 21 and Hage was available, the deal was undone.
The writer also points out that the basis for the deal is still there, just substituting the worst of our 2025 picks for the first rounder. I might go for that. Anaheim's second round pick, if it's their own, would be fairly high. Our pick going the other way could be as good as 12-16 or as bad as 20-25.
Zegras would provide insurance in case Dach isn't the guy we saw before the injury, or be a destructive force as a third line centre against other team's middle 6. Suzuki-Dach-Zegras is quite the centre matchups and if Hage becomes what we hope he will, makes for a very valuable trade chip. But we'd lose some RHD depth. It would have to be Mailman, not Barron. I don't think Barron has much value any more. But we'll see what happens at camp.

Ignoring Zegra$ past wont make it go away.
We have two offensive defenseman that may or may not pan out. One of them has already proven he can play against Neanderthals, the other may need Michelin armour.
Finally, Rule 1 of Asset Management, don't fill a hole by digging another hole.

Seems to me that Mailloux for Zegras is Sergachev for Drouin all over again. Hell no

I don’t think Barron is waiver exempt anymore, which increases the odds of him getting a good long look with the Habs next year. We saw how patient Hughes was with the three goalie situation, not wanting to expose Primeau to waivers. He’s still only 92 games into his career and has a frame and toolset that GMs love, while also being a RHD. If he can figure it out between the ears he’ll have a solid career.

We're getting spoiled by Guhle who came in and immidiatly effective on the defensive end of his game. His offense, which he has, still needs development, Usually it takes 3-4 years for defenseman to settle in and reduce their mistakes. Barron does have more but it will take time. The other one is Struble. He has a pretty nasty side to him but he's buried ot to make and stay on the team. He's afraid to commit to hits and penalties. He saw what happened to X so he's taking the safe route. It's going to be interesting for Mailioux. He needs development on his defensive side and i hope MSL ignores his invariable mistakes and bad choices. Hutson will get a pass on his substantial short comings on his defensive duties and Rein just has to play defense because no one expects much offense out of him. See Guhle. In the long run, as all around defenseman Mailman can land up as our number 1. But it wont be for 2-3 years. To be clear, if Hutson is the real deal he will be screamed as our savior, but by no means what consider a great defensman in the mold of our Ministry of Defense. Back to Barron. It would be rare that what we've seen is all he is. There "should" be another level in him. But, if Rein and Mailman develop to their potential, Barron is no3 as RHD and injury replacement.
