Sounds like a deal is done between Pittsburgh and Winnipeg. People saying it is a 1 for 1.

I suspect that when the Habs got Laine, McG was dead to us. Which probably gave Cheve few options but to take the Pens offer.
Having said that, there wasn't any actual rumour that Hughes wanted him. Just speculation. Asset wise, we have them in spades but the closest is Beck. I wouldn't trade Beck for McG because they are the same type of player without the baggage.
Anywho, Laine is proven and vastly superior to McG. All he cost is Molsons money.

The only deal I would of done would of been Mesar and a B level prospect or draft pick (3rd/4th rounder) With the addition of Laine, I think we can put to rest any other additions/trades for a couple of months.

Yager is a year younger and probably 30 lbs lighter than McGroarty. But he is certainly not less talented.
Pittsburgh has missed the playoffs the last two seasons and the core is an additional year older. The Pens had a rather meh off-season (Grzelyck, Hayes, Glass, Beauvillier) as they tried to patch glaring holes in their roster. So I suspect the primary attraction for Dubas is that McGroarty, physically, can play in the NHL this season, whereas Yager certainly cannot.
Winnipeg can afford to let Yager develop at a sensible rate and hope that he is ready to contribute when their forward group starts to turn over.

He would have played against our Owen Beck. All true. In August 2022 I saw him live at the Hlinka Gretzky where he had a great tournament. He was one point off Calum Ritchie for tournament top points. That 🇨🇦 team was stacked and ran the table. I saw him in a few WHL games live in his draft season too after the Hlinka, and he seemed to look a little less offensively dominant. That Moose Jaw Memorial Cup team had lots of talented stars, but they never seemed to all have good games at the same time. That is not unusual for that tournament as players will have played a ton of hockey by that point and most are likely playing through some degree of injuries and/or fatigue. Combine it with the single round robin format, and the best team on paper does not always win. Just ask London Knights from last year. They ran into Beck!!!
