Few degrees of separation

You may have noticed that I have changed my Avatar from the usual Far Side cartoons, to a Habs cap. There's a short story about that, so please allow me to wax nostalgic.
I have a best friend from high school who has a partner. They are a gay couple and both are great people. They try to do an annual trip through the Okanagan/Shuswap to visit friends down the valley and they stay with us for a couple of days and then move on. I have a birthday coming up soon and one evening I left the room where we were chatting, came back and there was a box on my chair. It contained the cap that's in the picture. So I look at this cap and think "Excellent! a Habs cap. Love it!" I also noticed that it has a Jean Beliveau signature on it and I think, "This is cool, a signature, but it can't be real because Jean has been dead nearly 10 years and this hat looks new (it is...still has the plastic tag on it). This is when it gets fun because the signature really is genuine and I looked at Graham (my friend's partner) and ask how the hell he got a signed Jean Beliveau cap.
Graham's family owned and ran the Wong L'etoile, a chinese food restaurant at the corner of St. Jacques and Rue St-Charles in Longueuil. The Beliveaus lived close by on what was Victoria Street, I believe, now renamed Rue Jean Beliveau. I find out Graham knew Beliveau, they ate at the restaurant and ordered out, he'd been to Beliveau's house, has a signed Jean Beliveau jersey and that when Graham's dad held some big pre-christmas dinners for about 50 friends and family, they'd invite the Beliveaus, who would come.
Who'd figure it was that small a world? And I end up one of the best birthday gifts I've had. Amazing. I'm still pumped.
Rats, just noticed there's a shadow on the cap from taking the picture. I'll have to post a new photo.
