The expected Habs tonight. Mailloux is the lone player who also played last night.

Devils ice a weaker lineup than regular season, which is to expected on the road in preseason, but nice that they put Allen and kovacevic in the game

This is a useless game. If Lazar, a 4th line energy guy is centering the top line on the opposition, you've not going to learn anything. On defense Hamilton, Hughes, Pesce and Dillon aren't dressed. Seriously? Up front, Mercer, Jack Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, Palat, Haula, Markstrom and Tatar are sitting. Together that's about 85% of their regulars sitting out this game. Don't get excited guys. Just pray no one gets hurt.
I was curious about Mailloux playing back to back. One wonders if they're on the fence about him and want to see more. Tonight isn't going to help as he's playing an AHL team.

It will make his life on defense so much easier if he simply learns how to get proper body position against his opponents. Imo, it's not an IQ issue with him, just a matter of working on habits. The more games he gets, the better.

Blacked out again, all I get is a still screen with both team logos and the molson logo Blackout roulette! I got blacked out from both prospect games but getting last night and today. I almost cancelled but now I'm just hoping I get the regular season games. At $5 it's worth it. If there was some way of recording it, encrypting it and then putting it into the cloud. At 1080p and h265 codec, it wouldn't be more then 2gb. Usually it take about 3 minutes to download that size from the cloud. Right now, it's the big boss hogging the big tv so no game for me until after she goes to bed. When I finish the house, on game nights, she will banned to her own tv in the bedroom or the tv in her den. She was whinnying why I kept the old tvs, now she knows!

I have no idea about policies. The kid from Robbers who talked to my wife was a huge Habs fan and said he got this package for years. I have no idea where he is located because my wife didn't ask. When I didn't get the prospects game I was going to cancel but decided to keep it to the first NHL games. So far, it's maybe they will, maybe they won't. Just wait and see...

I guess I'm just talking to the wrong guy. But how is some rep in India going to be a Habs fan? Cricket maybe, but hockey? He was Canadian, so was the very first 9ne I talked to. This has 3 parts to the calls into Robbers.... 1st was a Can. kid who introduced us to the package after 1/2 hr of searching for alternatives. It started when someone said here there was a French Center ice for $60. 2nd was a Habs fan who vouched for it and had it 3rd when I actual got it and spent a 1/2 for him to refind it. Also Canadian. The reason we had so many calls was that we also switched over to Ignite vs our old Robbers box and ran into problems. Of course we can't record as many programs but the picture is better. Originally I thought with the new system I could download recorded programs then they would accidentally land up in my cloud, but nope, can't get it off their cloud into mine. You see where I'm going with this? But anywho... Did you check if there is a French Center Ice on Telus? Robbers had it and ended it last season.

As for the game...
Not impressed one iota with our PP.
Matheson needs to go on the block. Mailman and Hutson can run the PP.
Can we get some used pucks for Ghally? I rather see Kapanen and Beck at the start.
Rein was "steady". Nothing to write home about for a top 5 pick.
Pizza and Evans are making sure they are not forgotten.

I've been making this point for some time. Matheson got 23 assists on the PP and I'm guessing that most were because of simple passes to some very good players. He's not a creative guy. How many of us lost our voices screaming at him to pass the puck to a wide open Slafkovsky, and he wouldn't? If it takes 30 games or so for it to register that maybe giving a creative winger the puck to do something with it is a good idea, you're not smart enough to run a PP. He had some spectacular plays last year and it's led to the myth that he's an offensive player. He isn't. He's ok, just as he's ok defensively, but almost completely because he's such a great skater and not because he reads the play well and has good anticipation. Being quite physically limited in sports myself (not strong, not fast, flexible as a piece of re-bar), I had to develop the mental aspects of sports, so I get really focused as a viewer, on players who are really smart. Matheson is not one of those guys, though he is a decent defenseman (second pairing ability IMO). Not to judge him on yesterday's preseason game, where he didn't look good, but was probably just trying to avoid injury (as he should), but with the increased competition at LD, he should not be used as much this year and certainly not on the PK.
Beside's Matheson's usage this year I also will be paying close attention to Marty's work in general. He has been given a lot of leeway because we weren't winning anything since he came on. That's changing this year. We are expected to be "playing meaningful games in March", which is management speak for "I think this roster is, given reasonable health, good enough to make the playoffs". Marty can't go with a goalless Anderson for game after game after game. He can't have an 0 for 8 power play, like last night. The pressure is going to be on Mr. St. Louis. I hope he has the ability to take the next step himself. I don't like suggesting we fire coaches I like. Accountability goes all the way to the top.
Speaking of Forum Ghost, anyone know what's happened to him?

I've missed most of the last 3 years of hockey because frankly, I'm not fond of losing and half a$$ed efforts. Even the free games got DELETE more often then watched.
This year hopefully it's different, hello RDS and also i have better tv to watch them with. No motion blur and i can see the pimples on their nose. Before all i can see is a defenseman swivelling his head, now i can see who he's looking at. It's about 70% of being at the game. If i had full 4k and individually focused cameras, it would be 90% of being in the game.
Because of the above i never paid much attention to Matheson other then seeing him mostly in highlights. Last night it was different and very disturbing. My nephew has better hockey vision then Matheson...and he's 12. I saw almost no vision other then safe passing to the next guy. He didn't try to pull defenseman off their coverage/position or find open man. Safe boring non productive thinking. He's not 12.

He’s brought leadership, racked up points, and put together a pretty decent package of highlights. And to top it all off, after finishing 9th in league scoring for defensemen, he’s inflated his value to an all time high. If Hugo takes advantage and trades Matheson for a nice haul of assets, I’ll forever look back on Matheson’s time as a Hab with extreme fondness. But if Hugo misses the boat and hangs onto him, I’ll be cursing Matheson and Hugo’s names every time Matheson fumbles the puck at the blue line (ie at least twice per game). Seriously though, he’s overachieved here and has a very tradeable contract. The left side D is overcrowded, and Matheson’s age means he’ll likely be regressing when our contender window opens. Trade trade trade! One last note… Matheson needs to try an new stick, new curve, new something! Sometimes he makes komisarek look like Mario Lemieux.

Extra magic and triple BigMac for Hughes if he packages Dvo, Ghally and Matheson for a great return.
We probably have to take salary back but maybe a bottom feeder thinks the can accelerate their rise to glory if they have those three.

Hits fine to talk about trading Matheson but who has the cap space and needs him at this point in the season? Not too many! There's no way Hughes trades Matheson until the TDL at the earliest. Trading him is on my wishlist, but I recognize it's not happening soon. His best relocation is to a contending team that needs his skating and minute munching time. His contract, for what he brings, is actually pretty good. I don't think that would hinder a trade. The TDL (is that in February or March?) would be an ideal time. He has one year left after this season, so it's a reasonable pickup for a contender who needs someone on the 2nd pair. By then, we also will have a much better idea of how Mailloux, Reinbacher, Struble and Engstrom fit into the picture. A left side group of Hutson, Guhle, Struble, Xhekaj sounds good to me, matched up with Savard, Reinbacher, Mailloux and Engstrom (Trudeau could be included there too). And we still have those two first rounders this year plus whatever Matheson brings in.

Mike Matheson has 96 points in 130 games with the Montreal Canadiens. Not bad for someone who is not an offensive defenseman
How does that compare to recent point producing defensemen?
Shea Weber - 146 points in 275 games Jeff Petry - 248 points in 508 games PK Subban - 278 points in 434 games
Matheson is not an offensive defenseman?? Ohhhh- kay then

Certainly an offensive defenseman. I'm offended when i see him running the power play.
We can't be a serious team with a bottom rung PP. Might as well give Hutson the reins and see where we go with that. We certainly don't have 2nd rate forwards anymore so what's the problem?
One thing we use to have is Webers canon and...suprise, we got two kids with canons. X has crippled the puck at 107mph and Mailman has a 100mph plus. What about using them in the PP?
What we have here is failure to communicate...fix it or coaches need to be fired.

Ohhhh- kay then Teams are not built with 23 clones, all 6’0, 190 lbs, 24 years old. They may average that but some players shoot better, skate faster, pass better and score more. We need someone older who still plays with smarts. Matheson has never been a problem, produces, loves the team and plays both ways. Dvorak is past his prime and Gallagher is a warrior who bled blue, blanc rouge but his body is breaking down. Everyone including Gretzky is available for the right price but pushing productive guys out to try out kids is not advancing.
