One of the names I could think of is Gallant. His bio... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_GallantHe's known as a tough coach, the Yan to Marty's Yin. This is the type of system... blueseatblogs.com/2021/06/15/quick-primer-on-gerard-gallants-systems/He doesn't speak French so no Habs head coach job for him. In fact, he wasn't considered when he and Lavoilette were the obvious choices in 2020, before Marty. An experienced systems coach that wants in and will take an assistant job. Is Marty confident enough? Or will he quit? Pout? Plan to drug him and send him to Russia? What say you?

Some of the systems Galant will run are the same as Marty.
Diamond defense of the PK
1-2-2 on defense depending on depth.
What i care about is our PP umbrella. We overuse it and land up with a perimeter dance-a-thon and we don't have an effective cannon for a 1-3-1.
I know people love Hutson ballet on ice but he MUST have a canon along with the dance steps...and he has a pop gun. His shot is simply not hard enough to be effectivly screened. So the 1F in the 1-3-1 has lost it's potency.
We need Guhly or Mailman or X shot back there.
Mailman will be buried in the AHL until Hughes gets rid of bodies. It's a stupid policy of convinience.
X has the biggest cannon but doesn't have the vision.
Guhle should be the 1D and Hutson should be RF.
PP formation...
1F LF..CF..RF 1D
The way i would strucure is
1F...Slaf LF...CC, Laine CF...Suzuki, Dach RF...Hutson 1D...Guhle, Mailman
There is a book of reasons why i would do this or hopefully the next coach would do and totally based on the stregnths of the players...but what do i know....

No more Hab re-treads. Please. No mas!! No wonder the Forum Ghosts stay away. We keep making the same mistakes over and over and over and over Gallant's strength is not systems. He's a player's coach. I'm convinced he was a main reason our 2013/14 team was able to piggy back Price's great play to go as far as they did because Gallant was the buffer between Therrien and the players. He must have had a miserable year, placating the players. I seem to recall that one of the criticisms of Gallant in NY was systems. He's also very old school, so a big fat no from me. I've thrown out Carbo's name. I don't know enough about his character as a coach, but he had .549, .634, adn .583 records as a head coach with the Habs from 2006/09. The roster was ok, Koivu, Markov, Kovalev, Halak and a young Price, but not loaded with talent overall. That makes me think he had good systems, but I could be wrong. He's 64, so can he be seen as a threat? I don't care for liking or disliking a coach, but they have to be respected. Was Carbo respected by the players? Maybe some of you guys closer to the scene at that time might have an opinion? Please share. Thanks. If not Carbo, someone like him. As Skilly mentioned, Vincent might be an option, but he's busy as it is. Second him for a month?

Remind me again...does Carbo speak French?
Remind me again...wss he head coach of the Habs? Then fired by Gainey?
I'm old and forgetful...so i can't remember, but i bet MSL remembers.
In the current corporate enviroment Carbo is an unlikely hire because you just wrote a huge sign in front of MSL...YOUR REPLACEMENT IS HERE.
