www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/246076.htmlIt would seem that the Habs acquired Gui's brother. He was playing in the CHL (Central Hockey League) and had 22 goals and 30 assists in 37 games there. Oli will report to Cincinatti. Given this move, I suspect that Gainey's not planning on dealing Latendresse in the coming weeks. I nearly put this in the Non-Habs Hockey Related thread, because although Olivier came very close to making the 'Yotes and despite Gui and him racking up points all through midget, he's generally not considered an NHL-calibre talent. But now he's a Montreal non-NHL talent. If you read this article, which outlines the relationship that Olivier has with Gui and their father, it might just be a courtesy transaction to bring him closer to home. Olivier's contract runs through next season, after which he'll be a restricted free agent. I guess now we know what Gainey meant by only acquiring 'A' level players. ;D Then again, when it comes to Phoenix's ability to assess talent, we might just have another Ryder on our hands.

It appears, according to a friend who keeps better track of these things than I, that Cincinatti has spoken and the return for Olivier is Cory Urquhart, our 2nd round pick from 2003, who's been hovering between Hamilton and Cincinatti this season. A massively misguided pick in retrospect, even though that draft was pretty horrible in general.

A massively misguided pick in retrospect, even though that draft was pretty horrible in general. More coffee? 2003 was actually a spectacular draft, perhaps the best draft in the history of the draft. Aside from all the superstars that were drafted in the first round that year, there were all kinds of NHL players taken later on. Granted we blew it with the Urquart pick, but there are literally dozens of players taken after that who are currently in the NHL, including Patrice Bergeron and our very own Maxim Lapierre, Ryan O’Byrne and Jaroslav Halak (the latter of course, isn’t in the NHL, but should be). The pundits are saying this year’s draft could be as good as that one, which is why I would be reluctant to part with top picks in the next couple of weeks. If anything I’d be trying to pick up a couple of more, and solidify the dynasty for the next decade…

Always need more coffee. You know, you're right. I don't know what I was thinking.

Well since I can't read French well, it seems that the article actually states that it's a loan, however it also states that Olivier will be a member of the organization at the end of the season. Urquhart has been loaned Yotes organization. So really, I have no idea what the actual arrangement is, as it's not clear what happens with Urquhart at the end of the season.

Latendresse has really been cooking on a line with Mathieu Aubin since joining the Cyclones. Olivier has 9 points in the 4 games, Mathieu has 11. I wouldn't discount either of those two from NHL futures. Certainly an upgrade from that borderline defective Urquhart who Timmins and Savard took ahead of Patrice Bergeron, while both were playing junior in their own backyard.

I have done some reading up on Olivier and it seems that he's actually better than what Phoenix gave him credit for.
He may not be an NHL player in the end, but a solid AHL career isn't out of the question.

...Olivier Latendresse went all to way to win the championship with his ECHL team, getting 7 goals and 19 points in their 22 playoff games. www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/253396.htmlCouldn't help but think that a certain Daniel Briere rot in the Phoenix system for years (even got sent to the IHL) before the Yotes gave him away to the Sabres at 25... Daniel's carreer took off right there. Now the Yotes gave Olivier to us, a former Junior AllStar without ever giving him a chance. www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect/olivier_latendresseWould be fun if the story repeat itself... Who knows...

I don't think Olivier has much NHL-level offensive potential, but I think it's within his talent level to possibly become a Steve Begin-type. He's a great energy player, and very good in his own zone. Though, hopefully with fewer untimely penalties. I still can't believe anyone wanted to give Urquhart a chance, and the arrangement of a loan prior to the trade confuses me... if it even is a trade.. nobody I've spoken to knows where Urquhart ends up at the end of the season. I want to know what's going on.

Urquhart led his CHL team to victory in their league in the desert, so he ended the season on a happy note as well as Latendresse who won the Kelly Cup in Cincy.
The whole deal seems to stem around a minor player move this summer, although nothing in writing confirms what happens beyond July 1st. Urquhart is a RFA but the Habs can transfer his rights in exchange for Olivier now that all the seasons are done. By the sounds of Lats Senior, he expects to be at the Habs' camp this fall and not back trying to make the Yotes'.
Both are fringe prospects for their respective organizations, so both organizations are hoping a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered for each player that they have currently under loan.
