Awesome.
Gives Hamilton some much-needed depth after Montreal picked them clean.

Awesome. Gives Hamilton some much-needed depth after Montreal picked them clean. They will also get Wyman as his season should be over fairly soon. White and Weber should see some pretty long playoff runs with Weber guaranteed some hockey in May since his team hosts the Memorial Cup.

wasn't overly impressed with maxwell, he has a long ways to go to make the show, lots to work on. i'd also say white in some ways has a better chance, only because he's more solid on his skates.
maxwell definetly has more skill, but has to crack the 1st two lines whereas white can play 3rd-4th lines.

Yep, Ben has not been dominant at his level, so he has a ways to go. Now, in all fairness, injuries have played a role, so he may yet make some big jumps.

I would say that he was fairly dominant last season...53 points in 39 games as an 18 year old in the WHL is pretty fantastic. Hopefully all the injuries won't have a huge impact on his development.

yes and two seasons ago angelo esposito was a better player than he is now, without a doubt the injuries slowed ben down, you can't improve and become a better player from the seats. but i can only speak for seeing him live and comparing him to countless other prospects i've seen.
he is an elite talent, but his style of game is suited to the top two lines only, not much grit to him at all, and to crack the top two lines on our club in the next couple seasons you have to be an elite skill player. he could end up being good trade bait though, let's see how he makes the transition to the bigger and tougher pro game next season.
locke and milroy were two great junior players that didn't really improve a lot as they aged, maxwell has to take a couple more big steps to get to the nhl level, right now he's looking a lot like locke and milroy, time will tell, it's up to him. i've heard questions about his work ethic and desire though.

I think Ben Maxwell is as close to a "can't miss" prospect as they have in the organization. Along with Max Pacioretty. Maxwell has one aspect to his game that Milroy and Locke lacked, and that is exceptional skating ability. He also has great natural offensive skill and is as tough as he needs to be. You can't discount him over his injuries. When he was healthy last season he may have been the best player in the CHL.

His skating ability is very good, so he often looks like he is not working very hard out there but he moves about very easily. Not one of these choppy explosive guys, just a nice smooth stride. He also has very good puck skills, so he likely needs to stay healthy and beef up a little to take the physical rigours of the next level of hockey. Saw him live two weeks ago and he looked pretty good to me. Not flashy dominant, just effective in all things being asked of him.
I look forward to seeing a healthy Ben in Hamilton next season.

his skating is not what i would call exceptional, and he wasn't even close to being the top player in the chl last season. he is a good skater, more smooth like scott niedermayer but nowhere near that speed, but i don't see him flying or beating guys on the outside, he's a good prospect, but apparently a little soft and lazy, and although he does many things effectively as nwt says, i didn't see anything that made me go wow. but for the round they got him in he is a very good pickup.

Maxwell won all of the skating events at the Top Prospects camp in his draft year. Some of them by quite a wide margin. So, yes, he is an EXCEPTIONAL skater. Last season when he was injured, he was leading the WHL in scoring, and the WHL is hands down the best league in the CHL, so yes, HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE CHL LAST SEASON.

Article about Maxwell in La Presse www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20080308/CPSPORTS0101/803080944/5128/CPSPORTS01Like the article said most newspapers did about the Maxwell signing , I totally over looked this guy when I took stock of our top 10 prospects.Sounds like he has the talent to surprise and like some people always says when they lecture me about patience for prospects "you have to give 5 years to fully evaluate a prospect" or something like that. He maybe a number two or perhaps a number one center in the coming years, but first things first , I hope he comes in and dominates for the Bulldogs in the upcoming playoffs this year.

He won't be dominating anything for the Bulldogs this year - he's not on their "clear day list", which means he can't play for them for the rest of this season (including playoffs) unless there are injuries.

Unless injury I guess........thanks for the correction though.I just assumed they would include him seeing they signed him. Do you know a link to the Clear day list?

He can be signed to a PTO once his CHL season is over. It is the same way that Chipper and Price were added the last two seasons despite not being on the Clear Day Roster.

Clear day lists are only for current players. Every year the Habs sent additional players to Hamilton, Halak, Chipchura, Price, Carle, S.Kostitsyn, even though only Chip/Price played in any games, they got to work out with the club. This year they could send Wyman, Maxwell, White and Weber, although Weber is going to the Memorial Cup and hopefully the Hitmen can also make the trip. Wyman's season could be over tonight if they lose to Cornell. Edit: I saw Maxwell play last night against Swift Current, wasn't a great game for him, he played a lot and in all situations but little intensity and he broke his 7 game pts streak.

I stand corrected :-): "Each Clear Day roster consists of a maximum of 22 players. According to AHL by-laws, only those players listed on a team’s Clear Day roster are eligible to compete in the remainder of the 2007-08 AHL regular season and in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, unless emergency conditions arise as a result of recall, injury or suspension.
Teams may also add signed junior players or players on amateur tryout contracts, only after their respective junior or college seasons are complete".Clear Day List
