Among NCAA freshmen this season. Quite impressive, considering the fact that he has battled a series of nagging injuries all season long.

Patch certainly has the deepest team, and highest scoring, after quickly looking at some team stats on hockeydb.
I saw a rather boring compilation video of Max on hfboards the other day. He skates well, and plays a physical, get your hands dirty, kind of game. The goals shown weren't pretty by in large. On a line with some skill I think he could do what we're hoping Lats will eventually do.

Pacioretty is odds on favorite to win Top Rookie in the CCHA, I would think. He is the top scoring freshman in the league this season, ahead of teammate Aaron Palushaj, who has played a few more games.
McDonagh has an outside chance at making the WCHA All Rookie team. I think Cade Fairchild has one spot locked up, and McDonagh will be in the mix with teammate Brendan Smith and a couple others for the remaining slot.

Pacioretty one of two unanimous choices to CCHA All Rookie team, along with Carter Camper. He and Camper will likely duel it out for the league's top rookie award. Max's linemates Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik were both CCHA First Team All Stars, with Porter a unanimous pick as well. Porter is probably odds on favorite to win the Hobey Baker Award this year as well.

Article on Max Pac: Some nice words by his coach and Max seems to have a head on his shoulders.I would like to see him stay in college.I like to see the prospect dominate before graduating to the next level but I trust Timmons and Gainey know what is best for his development . i'm betting we see him sign with us and he'll only have 1 year of college. like many are saying windows are small now, so best to get him up as soon as he is ready with our young team.
we could have 3 scoring lines next season, but we need one really excellent shutdown line that can also do really well on the pk. those are two areas we need to address.

Max wins CCHA ROTY Award. His career over the past two seasons has almost exactly duplicated that of Kyle Okposo, who is about a year older. Both are considered potential NHL power forwards, with Okposo having an advantage in physical development at this point, while Pacioretty is bigger and a better skater. Okposo, who was the 7th player drafted in 2006, turned pro midway through his sophomore year, averaged about a point per game in the AHL for a couple of months, and is currently in the NHL having just turned 21. I would think that Max has at least the same potential, probably more, since he will fill out to be about 20 pounds heavier, is a better skater, a more conceintious two way player, and doesn't mind dropping the gloves to protect his teammates. He seems to be ahead of a lot of the players taken ahead of him at this juncture. Ryan McDonagh named to WCHA All Rookie Team. It looks like he was the leading vote getter among freshman defensemen, although I haven't seen that officially. A pretty good accomplishment in itself.

Max Pac is sitting out tonight's conference semi with a one game suspension from his fight in last Saturday's win against Nebraska-Omaha. Not too often you see guys in the NCAA fight, especially in the playoffs. Nice job Max, adding to your resume!!

Pacioretty wins Rookie of the Year. Berenson, Porter and Pacioretty Claim Top CCHA Awards March 20, 2008
DETROIT, Mich. -- Head coach Red Berenson, senior forward Kevin Porter (Northville, Mich.), and freshman forward Max Pacioretty (New Canaan, Conn.) of the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team captured the accolades for CCHA Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year, respectively, Thursday (March 20). The awards were announced and presented at the CCHA Awards Show presented by RBC Financial Group at the Fox Theatre.
Despite being in his 24th season as the leader of the Maize and Blue, this is just the second time Berenson has been voted the CCHA Coach of the Year. The other instance came in 1994, when U-M went 24-5-1 to collect the CCHA regular-season title. This season Berenson acquired his 10th CCHA regular-season championship, leading the Wolverines to a 20-4-4 league record. Berenson beat out finalists Bob Daniels of Ferris State and Enrico Blasi of Miami to receive the honor.
Berenson has guided U-M to a 29-5-4 record overall this season, and he is 640-297-68 all-time with the Wolverines, putting him in eighth place on college hockey's wins list. On Feb. 22, Berenson coached in his 1,000th game for U-M, facing in-state foe Michigan State in East Lansing.
Porter led the league in scoring this season, posting a 22-20-42 line in 28 conference contests. The captain had previously been announced a unanimous choice for the All-CCHA first team, and he was CCHA Player of the Month for November and February. He garnered 12 multi-point games in conference play and scored a point in 24 of 28 contests. Porter is the first Wolverine to be voted CCHA Player of the Year since 1997, when Brendan Morrison collected the honor for the second consecutive season. David Oliver also won the award in 1994. The other finalists this year were Miami forward Ryan Jones and Michigan State goalie Jeff Lerg.
Overall, Porter boasts a 28-28-56 line, giving him a four-point advantage in the national scoring race. Michigan is also 19-1-2 when Porter scores a goal. The senior has an 80-96-176 line in his tenure at U-M, and he has earned a top 25 spot in Michigan's record book for career goals, assists, and points by a forward.
Pacioretty had already received a spot on the CCHA All-Rookie team, as he led all freshmen with a 12-16-28 line in 25 conference games. He was also the CCHA Rookie of the Month for November, after he tallied a point in nine consecutive contests, earning a 3-9-12 line during the span. Pacioretty also had five multi-point games in CCHA play. Nine other U-M freshmen have collected CCHA Rookie of the Year recognition, most recently T.J. Hensick in 2004. The other finalists for Rookie of the Year were Miami forward Carter Camper and Michigan State defenseman Jeff Petry.
Pacioretty has amassed 34 points (14-20-34) overall, putting him in the fourth slot for points per game (1.03) among the nation's freshman class.
This Friday (March 21) the Wolverines will travel to Joe Louis Arena to face the Northern Michigan Wildcats in the CCHA semifinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m. and will be televised by FSN Detroit.www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect/kevin_porter

Patch picks up 3 points tonight as Michigan's top line goes wild. Max now has virtually the same freshman stats as Paul Stastny did 3 years earlier at Denver. Stastny outscored Pacioretty by a bit with Sioux City prior to going to the NCAA, but it was his second year in that league, and Max' first.
At the NCAA level, Stastny had 42 points in 40 games as a freshman. Pacioretty has 37 points in 35 games on a team with the identical goal total (164) in the same number of games (41). He seems to have more offensive upside than I gave him credit fcr. Too bad they didn't take his teammate Aaron Palushaj in the second round. He is going to be a terrific NHL player.

Aaron is slick for sure. I wanted the Habs to take a flyer on Stastny and it was interesting when Colorado jumped up to get him in the second round we did too to get Latendresse on the very next pick. I thought some teams might let Paul slide a bit farther and we would get a steal, but alas the Rockies were on the ball that day. Pacioretty is having a huge year for a freshie. Interesting to see if he can repeat without Palushaj and Porter next season.

Pacioretty was playing on a line with Porter and Kolarik, for the most part. Palushaj would join the line at some spot for power plays only. It is interesting that the seniors Kolarik and Porter have played together, often on the same line, since they were 14 or 15. The freshmen, Pacioretty and Palushaj, were together in Sioux City last season prior to joining Michigan.
Palushaj has been overshadowed by Patch so far (Max won USHL ROTY and CCHA ROTY), but Aaron is nearly a full year younger. He was only eligible for last summer's draft by a week or so. He is about the same age as Phil Kessel was as an NCAA freshman, and has scored nearly as well. Plus he is 6-2, and should top out at over 200 pounds. Could be a Joe Neiwendyck type of player.
